Gunn has not had a great night if we’re honest. Fans leaving already, they love that on Sky. It feels harsh because we’ve basically played seven matches this season, five times against teams in the top twenty or perhaps ten clubs in the entire world, losing five. Of our two matches against clubs closer to our level, won one lost one. Yet it does feel like we’ve taken a big step backwards.
I was going to say this has been his best game for us so far, he’s done some really nice things at times but equally some horrible careless things.
I have a tendency to drama and an overactive imagination, so this may just be me being a drama queen, but I've got a feeling Farke may offer his resignation tomorrow. For things to be this bad, something must be wrong.
The thing is, I’m just not sure it is that bad. It feels bad, because we’ve played top teams and been comfortably beaten. But rationally it’s not actually that bad - would you expect us to get any draws against Liverpool (twice), Man City, Leicester, Arsenal? Sure, you’d hope, but not expect. And if you were told we wouldn’t be able to finish three on ones, penalties and clear shots on goal from inside the box, what would you reckon?
Well we limited Liverpool to just 3 shots on target to our 5, that’s progress. Just a shame they scored all of theirs and we failed to convert 1.
Another abject defeat against a team containing one 16 year old and two eighteen year olds. We looked clueless for much of the game and the marking was poor in the penalty box. Gilmour should go back to Chelsea or be given games in the U23 side. DF is now out of his depth and the players seem lacking any positive ideas. All that money spent and very little evidence that much had changed at CR
Agreed, realistically we have only lost 1 game that we could hope to get points from, Watford, and we never seem to do well against them either.
I think we must have been watching different games CirySlicker. I think we did well at times, certainly not abject. We desperately need a bit of confidence.
I am not really sure what to make of it tonight. We had 9 changes and still had what looked like a pretty decent team, however, Liverpool also made 9 changes. We thought we had strength in depth this season but it appears that we are still way behind. I am not sure what Adam Idah brings to the team as he doesn't seem to be a natural finisher, at least not one that can do it at this level. I am not placing any blame on him, I just don't think he is good enough.
I think Idah is highly rated not because of his current level but because of what they believe he might become. He’s still very young.
This is his 3rd season with 1st team playing time, is it not? I know he has not had a lot of playing time and perhaps he needs to go out on a season-long loan and get him back as a more experienced player.
Mainly because Idah was selfish when he had two teammates unmarked in a better position. Idah looks a long way off PL level on this performance. Positives were the tenacious and committed performances from Lees-Melou and Giannoulis, the latter showing his ability to link up with Tzolis as well. Christos was our main threat until he went off. Pukki and Dowell also looked sharp but the goals given away were embarrassing and Gunn did little to threaten Krul. Still, it could have been worse as Watford lost 3-1 at home to Stoke.
We had our own youngsters in Idah, Omobamidele, Mumba and Godfrey so that wasn't such a factor. For me it's not DF but the drain on confidence brought about by the cruel opening schedule. We were so close against Leicester and pushed Arsenal all the way, but unless we manage an upset soon this is going to be a long season.
Agree with that. Never has a team looked more desperate for a lucky break to get the monkey off the back.
