here is the thing.

Anfield is actually a tight pitch. we need fast passing and active press at home.

we.cant afford players hogging ball and sloppy slow play.

when we play Utd at home it's.got to be high.intensity game with fast passing as thry will not want to get beat.

if it's at old Trafford the pitch is bigger, their more athletic runners (rashford is a classic Utd player in that regard) come into play. the more.fellianis and lukaku we see the better but off cannot leave space so a 4231 would probably work better with fabinho in there with someone

Joe gomez pace is astounding. klopp banned him from the gym for good reason.

back 5 should stay together imo. I sense a resting coming v Watford though.

Joe is electric over the ground, we really need to sign competition for RB and lb.
It would enable us to keep the two of them together rather than shunting him out to the right to cover tAA.

dunno why klopp refuses to even see clyne on the pitch.

it sort of makes me wonder if the rumours were true on clyne.

however if they were I don't understand why we just didn't sell then.

Must be something yeah. I'm sure everyone agrees they would rather have Clyne on the bench to cover for both LB and RB

Thst he got caught with drugs and had family issues.

He was pictured in las Vegas at one point while supposedly recovering last year.

He had a full pre-season and wasn't seen since.the minute the taa was back he was out of team

I remember, yes it seems strange, he looked good preseason as well. Strange he has disappeared again. Relapse perhaps, he's never even mentioned, which seems odd.

If we play with a two, I don't really see a role for keita, and it doesn't suit the front 3.

But klopp doesn't fancy Shaq in a 3 so I'm not altogether to sure how it's all going to fit together.

For the majority of our games one solid DM will be enough with two creative, ball playing midfielder s alongside.

Not sure klopp sees it this way, but chopping and changing formation and personnel isn't doing us any favours

I think klopp does but only in games where we dominate possession so we don’t have to worry so much about being compact in the middle. If shaq can work on that defensive side then no reason he couldn’t play in a midfield 3 against bigger clubs, similar to how ox has done it. When he arrived no one thought he’d be playing CM in the CL against city but he worked on his game to adapt to that role.

Atm, shaq is almost a luxury player but crucial in those tight games. A sort of more consistent luis Garcia in my mind

I am not looking forward, he's not exactly pacy, so his reading of the game needs to be top notch, unfortunately it seems that it is not. I can see why Monaco played him at rightback

Monaco player him at DM and the guy was brilliant. Only went back to RB when needed. Him and Bakayoko were crucial in that midfield.

He just needs time time to adapt. Yeah he’s not pacey but he has range so can cover ground without needing to be too quick. He just needs to adapt to the prem and the pace of the game as it’s clewrly different in France.

I’m not sure why people are writing Fabinho off - he’s actually been solid for us apart from the Arsenal game - coincidentally, the one game where he played in a midfield 3 for the first time.

And also - Keita is comfortable in a midfield 2. I see no issues with both players. They will prove to be quality additions to the team.

And finally, we need to move away from this mindset that we need 3 defensively solid midfielders when playing against the big teams. Yes, we need players who can defend but we need technical ability as well. It’s why we oftenstruggle to dictate tempo. Look at City yday - could have easily sat in their 2-1 lead but they dominated the middle and increased their lead and embarrassing united

I agree, we can't have a lack of creativity against top teams or in away games.

As I've said real teams have real midfielders.

Fernandinho, Silva, Silva. Proves what attack minded technical players can do

Jorginho, Kante, kovacic. Really technical no 6, Kante too good to leave out but isn't that good going forward but tries.

It's no wonder Utd with felliani etc are where they are

One of us was suggesting he'd play as a no.10 in a 4231... <whistle>

I see, strange that bakayoko hasn't worked for Chelsea as well. Unable to adapt?

I don't think anybody is righting him off, it's more we where expecting one thing and have got another. High hopes and all that.

Time will tell as always, but there is a fair few on here who have watched the game for a long time and see things a bit quicker than others.

As with any player, he will either work out or he won't, expressing your opinion on how you think it will go gives us something else to talk about.
