Yeah that'll by why we've all defended that challenge and we've been praising Barkley for it.....

Aren't you getting a bit mixed up there mate? We're talking about the player himself not apologising for the horror tackle not what the fans thought.

No, not at all fella, he said it was 'heroic to the bitters' and it wasn't, probably tongue in cheek in fairness, but it was far from 'heroic' as far as I'm concerned.

The lad has lost the plot now in 2 derbies, maybe it's a local lad thing, but it's plain daft and he could have seriously injured Lovren, in the same week we saw Coleman put out of the game for a year. Never right.

Is this where I point you to the comments section of the Echo <whistle>

Apparently two wrongs do make a right

Complete morons eh @Tobes

What's makes it even more hilarious is most of them saying "I don't remember Gerrard apologising for this"

Well here it is:

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/teams/everton/3040207/Gerrards-moment-of-madness.html

"I want to apologise for the tackle," said the England midfielder.

"I've gone in with two feet and my studs showing but I did try and pull back. I would never go out deliberately to hurt an opponent. I apologised to Gary Naysmith on the pitch and also when we shook hands afterwards. He has accepted the apology."

Gerrard also apologised to David Moyes. "It was a bad tackle," said the Everton manager. "He caught him on the deck on both legs. Steven Gerrard is a fantastic player and I don't want to criticise him."

There's been hundreds of shocking challenges in derbies over the years from players of both sides.

Barkley should have stuck his head into the dressing room and apologised after the game, he was protesting his innocence on the pitch to avoid a red card. As if he acknowledges that it's a shocker then the referee goes for his back pocket.

Ignoring "over the years" and just looking at the modern game as it's now played, do you think Everton are only giving as much as they get, or more?

Over the years, I have seen terrible tackles in Meryseside derbies and many sending off too.
Liverpool v Everton has attracted more red cards than any fixtures in the premieship.
Both sides are guilty, Barkley is just been made a scapegoat because it happened recently.

7 of the last 8 red cards have been Everton players, and that should be 9 of the last 10 with Barkley's last 2 performances

We haven't had a red in 7 years

[HASHTAG]#reality[/HASHTAG] is we have moved on but Everton haven't

so you drink with the fat lad? :)

the three of you are not really representative of the group as a whole... like that flag behind bellew that time... i'm sure barkely is a hero to many for not playing but kikcing instead

The 'modern' game started when like? There's been some shockers in recent years, Suarez twice in once game comes to mind when he did Distin and Mirallas. Mirallas repaying the favour with a ****ing shocker the following season, Mori last season was a bad one etc etc So overall it's probably not far off even I reckon, but the fact that we can't seem to beat you these days makes the fire slightly warmer in the Blue camp, we seem to get too fired up for these games and lose our composure as a result.

At least we played some actual football on Saturday, it was still a contest until Joel just stood there as Origi hit a shot about 3 yards inside the post <doh>

Playing Pennington was a mistake, he should have played Holgate as the 3rd CB if he wanted to play with a 3. Calvert Lewin was a bad choice as well, he did nothing, Mirallas should have started.

Barkley's just a thicko thug and a **** who happens to play pro football and also is from Liverpool so when you mix all that up in a heightened situation for him like the derby the inevitable happens, to say there's nothing sharp about the guy other than his studs is understatement of the year stuff, i mean just take a look at his gormless mug

its very obvious that hes not been done so he is just the total aggressor so refs will be taking note.

he wont get away with any now. like cahill. I remember that thick fool being sent off for half nothing a couple times.... compared to barkley.
