Didn't see much of Havertz to make a judgment. Was he being played out of position? Werner looks strong and will be a good player for them but I was surprised how easily he had the ball taken from him.
plus he wanted £300k/week after the Chavs stumped it up. Am convinced that is the reason we did not buy him. £300k/week for a 4th choice striker
I wouldn't say that. I just think Fabinho had the measure of him from the off which meant he wasn't a threat. He will play better against weaker opposition. Don't know anything about his attitude either but as mentioned above he and his representatives were too greedy for our liking.
Chelsea have a potentially strong team but it's all down to Frank to make them realise that potential. All teams will play us hoping to get something from the game of course, and for the less talented teams that will usually involve dropping back, allowing us to dictate the game, soaking up the pressure and hoping to catch us on the break. For a team with title-challenging ambitions it borders on criminal for them to adopt that tactic. It's pointless spending a fortune on talented players only to stifle them tactically.
Very well said. I don't know whether you were factoring in that it was a home game when you said it was criminal, the fact that it was makes it more so. Naivety from Lampard?
Don't know if it's been said or it's got lost in the red card discussion but what a sensational pass from Henderson.
On Frank, imo he got arrogant or caught up in some "beat Klopp at all costs" thing he's created thinking he could continue to play out from the back with 10men. Klopp deffo got in his head after the charity shield. His ego will be his downfall.
He should have stayed at Derby for another season or two and worked his way up. Can't fault him for wanting the Chelsea job but with his experience, or lack of, it's a step too far, too soon.
Just had a quick google to see the state of affairs at Derby and the first link on there "Derby County close to agreeing fee for former Liverpool youngster Bobby Duncan". Wow. He was really badly advised about leaving Liverpool to make a name for himself.
Yes, and the quick release from Ali, on to Hendo and a great ball into Sadios run. We were alive to the situation, Chelsea weren't.
Yes props to Alisson too and for the start of what will be his many penalty saves We played a good game without it being a great game. I always feel that while we don't let the opposition set the tempo, we have so many more gears to go up if needs be.
I thought he did a decent job last season. This season is different, expectations are much higher following the big outlay and him shaping the team to his style rather than having to work with what he'd got because of the transfer ban.
We have the best forward, the best defender and the best goalie in the league. Watching Tiago yesterday, and considering De Bruyne is semi-permanently injured, maybe we'll have the full set soon.
