I watched the flamngo game yesterday and you couldnt be more right about the play acting and ref hounding, as you say i hope the refs not one of those twats who will fall for it all. I dont think our players are an easy bunch to rattle anyway but when the ref is giving them everything that can change a person's serenity on the pitch and lead to silly things happening.

Ill be very worried if vvd is not fit for Saturday tbh, we need his calm head and assertiveness at the back against these cheating ****s

Sounds pretty standard for South and Central American teams

 

Just before the game came on the bbc had a guy out there and he was saying they still sing about beating us in the intercontinental cup in the 80s, also that their fans really want us in final.
Im not sure how we are viewed in south America but make no mistake these lot are chomping at the bit to get to us, fans and team, like its some kind of huge game for them to play us in particular, i could be wrong on that last bit, but thats the impression ive been getting from them on twitter and **** like that tbh they really want to win this.

The CWC is much much bigger in South American than it is over here. They love to take on the European teams.

There's a sense of 'little brother' about them. Cause Europe gets all the attention, money and all the players want to move to European clubs, the South American teams see it as a chance to get one over the 'Bigger Brother' Europeans. Prove that they're just as good and that their players are wrong to want to leave for Europe.

A couple of the Flamengo players have already said they'd want to prove themselves in Europe.

I wonder if that's where my antipathy towards the competition comes from. I have hazy memories of the refereeing being sn absolute joke. Didnt matter that we where much the better team the ref completely did for us.
