    The whole song? Well yeah.
I spent my childhood, adolescence and a large part of my adulthood singing it.
Of course, I'm ancient enough to remember Gerry's record, which probably helps. Though not the original Carousel version (before anyone starts) :)

Apparently I used to sing 'And don't be afraid of the dog' when I was a kid, so my sister tells me.

    Fair enough.

But I'm sure some/most think they know all the words but don't.

I also see no issue with having them written down. Bit snobbish to think everyone should know everything off by heart. I don't really know words to most of the songs sung, especially some of the older classics, but I'd rather someone bring words to help sing along than stand there silently all game.

Its not a problem of people not knowing the songs it's the problem of people who go there sit silently for 90 minutes with perhaps the only noise a tut or groan when we do something bad.

I think most would know YNWA but see my above post, I don't know any of the others really but don't see it as huge issue not knowing words.

I was brought up on classical music and never heard any old songs unless it was queen who my step dad loved.

    Oh and dire straits.

That was my musical up bringing lol.

Must admit. I was bevvied in Dublin about a decade ago on an MBA residential and there was this Blue ****e police inspector from Woolton on it (sound bloke, tbh), and I THOUGHT I knew all the words, so for a bet of a pint he asked me to sing it all (this was after I did Poor Scouser Tommy word perfect). **** me, I got to 'At the end of the storm, there's a..., an er, golden, er...' . Of course I knew it, but I just couldn't think under pressure!

It was probably @saintKlopp himself in that article ... senility plays havoc with the memory once you get to around 90. So I've heard, can't remember where though <whistle>

Either learn it before hand or don't bother singing it all, taking a hymn sheet is ****ing cringe.

    It's like a Catheeeedral <rofl>

I was at Oktoberfest a few years ago with my daughter and a disparate group of mates. In one of the halls where they have an all day sing-song she and I started singing YNWA - essentially to piss off one of our Manc mates. A Hong Kong member of our group picked it up, and an Aussie - then little pockets of the 5000 or so people around the hall (of god knows how many nationalities) started up until the hall rang with it.
    The Manc was livid. <laugh>

I did Poor Scouser Tommy at some Maori place in NZ where they signed that treaty (Waitangeri? can't remember, I'll google it later). They thought I was a ****ing nut!
