I don't think people are scapegoating Can, just surprised that he got MOTM when he spent the first half trying to leave a variety of marks on Boyd and passing to the opposition.
I agree that pundits rarely see beyond the goalscorer.
Our midfield was uniformly awful yesterday, despite the fact that it was two of them that scored. They created little and and won hardly any of the second balls for most of the match. I didn't even know Lallana was on the pitch until about 15 minutes in.
It's that slow start that really pisses me off, we always struggle after it. Yesterday we got lucky, too often we don't.

Lol I was surprised he got it!!

Prior to the last few games against lesser opposition, I believed that we didn't look as aggressive because we had more of the ball so it's hard to come across as intense.

But games against Leicester and now Burnley have showed that lack of intensity because both teams have been aggressive against us.

The thing is, teams are bypassing our press by playing it long. They're targeting the left side now and they know we can't attack the ball in the air. There's a graph I saw which showed us as the smallest (in height) and lightest (weight) in the league.

Not a fan of using stills but this highlights a big problem against the lesser teams:

There is a massive game between the front line and midfield - Can and Gini have to cover a lot of ground and it seems Lallana has a free roaming role. Combined with the fact that Can drops into defence, there's one less midfielder to cover that ground.

Cout had a shocker yesterday highlighted by that pic. He had no need to go push forward onto the CB when we're already 3 others ahead of him. Just needed to retain his position and cover the full back who received the ball in acres of space. Agree with distance though, defence seemed to drop yesterday (scared of grays pace?) with Can making it a back 5 and left us exposed in middle.

Miat have been a klopp Klopp tactic to get Can back into defence part way through the half but not sure it helped the midfield as none of the forwards dropped back to offer support.

I agree about stills, you'd have to know what play had led to that shape before analysing it properly - but it isn't great.
We're an attacking team and our midfield wants to get forward all the time, so I agree that the long ball beats the press.
Can dropped back between the CBs, but Hendo does that all the time as well - they're obviously told to.
It's still all down to attitude to me though - if we start slowly we struggle.

That's why we need masch back :bandit:

The rest of midfield can have their moment of glory then lol. Something masch was never bothered by, just did his job superbly.

Can was doing it when they had the ball though. No issue when we have it and the CBS split but Can was dropping next to Klavan and Milner at times out of possession which left midfield exposed. Obviously a Klopp tactic rather than Can doing it himself just seemed odd

We've seen from Can in the past that he likes to get forward and grab a bit of glory, so I agree the more withdrawn role must be imposed on him. On MOTD Klopp bemoaned our inability to win the second balls in midfield, but that was surely because of his set-up, in part at least? There was nobody there to win them.
Perhaps he was expecting the forwards to get back quicker, I don't know. This is where we miss Firmino (mito take note), because he's a battler in that area. Mind you, Lallana is an integral part of that as well, and he was anonymous for most of the game yesterday.

2 or 3 more wins out of what's left is achievable.

Their problem is they only get points at home. How many of them left.

The fact that Can/Hendo often drop deeper into defence highlights that Klopp doesn't trust the back line. To switch from a trusted 2 man midfield to a 3 man midfield would also imply this.

It will be interesting to see how Klopp approaches the summer - which system will he buy players for...?

Not sure if anyone saw it but the Echo reported that someone had sent in a picture of a fan who had the lyrics written down for YNWA.

More of a question for the locals but has the echo turned into some low class rag now? I follow the twitter account and the quality of articles has declined massively. Ridiculing a fan for having the lyrics doesn't sit well with me.

I read their online Liverpool FC articles fairly regularly, obviously, I don't get the paper where I am.

Other than the football their web presence has a very tabloidy vibe to it.

No, just no! Ford is utterly useless at covering full backs and we know this (witness the Europa final) . It's like towing a caravan with a Ferrari.
