Realistically we only need to avoid defeat. Even then we have the midgetland match as a reserve just in case.
I think it was harsh. Loose ball, both players go for it. Welbeck tries to parry it into a position where he can gain control and Robbo tries to hoof it clear and they end up coming together. I don't think either player is culpable, sometimes things just happen.
Yeah, harsh decision. 2 points evaporate in to thin air. There you go, it happens. We are still well placed so not something to get to pissed about.
Klopp said. He has covid, has only trained once and played 60 minutes on Wednesday. Players can’t play 90 minutes every game
This is true. And I think if the ref had given it right away woukdnt feel as hard done by. But Peter Walton said it at the time, that’s not a clear and obvious error he made. Crouchy said after, before var, people don’t even talk about that not being given, you just get on with it. Its meant to be clear and obvious. If it’s so clear and obvious why send the ref to go look. If it’s Thats obvious, just tell the ref it’s a pen and give it. If ref thinks it’s a pen and gives it, then sure I wouldn’t expect it to be overturned. At the moment, they are allowing the ref to re-ref every minor incident rather than correcting the big issues which is what var was brought in to do.
i wouldn't though wasn't that surprised when it was given but the way it was just seemed a bit ridiculous .
Absolutely, when a defender has started his action to clear the ball and an attacker comes in from the side and gets his foot across like that, the defender can do nothing. No control of the ball, no intent to foul and no penalty
To be devil’s advocate here, they don’t. They look at whether goals or penalties or red cards should be given. If it’s not a possible penalty or a goal or a red card then they don’t bother. I understand that some of our fans are unhappy but VAR has dumped this concept of clear and obvious error. An error is an error. How does the VAR work out which is c and o? VAR is supposed to be a tool to help the pitch referee. If there is a possible penalty decision then it is judgement to be made and it is only right that the pitch referee gets to view the incident and makes the decision. He doesn’t need to give a pen. To cast the blame purely on the VAR for the draw is wrong IMO. We CHOSE to put Mane and Henderson on the bench. Nobody forced us to sub Salah when it was delicately poised. In my opinion we had enough to easily beat Brighton IF we had played the right players. We prioritised the Ajax game ahead of this one and we got what we deserved.
I can't agree with this. On Wednesday it looked we prioritised this game over the Atalanta one and we can't have a hierarchy of games like that. I think Klopp and his staff are trying to manage the players in an ongoing way as opposed to deeming one game more important than another - at least when it comes to PL and CL games. I think we got what we deserved on Wednesday because the attitude stank, I don't think that was true of today's game. We have a decent squad, but the injury list has grown to the point where we are having trouble coping with it. Expect to see more games like this until things improve.
I also find the concept of intent to foul in one of the recent posts bizarre. A penalty is not given based on intent. A trip caused by a defender intending to play the ball but misses is a definite pen. Also the minor error argument. The ref didn’t see the kick initially so it wasn’t clear and obvious and therefore it should pass. Why? Because it was too quick? VAR looked at it because it was a potential foul in the penalty area. The decision was up to the pitch referee. He sees a foul he gives a pen. Just because he didn’t see it first time is not an excuse. A foul is a foul whether it is identified straightaway or a couple of minutes later with VAR.
Jurgen Klopp spoke out on MO Salah blanking him. https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/jurgen-klopp-speaks-out-furious-23084235
It's no different than if two players go for a header with the genuine intention of winning it and there's a clash of heads - it isn't anybody's fault as such. This is why I said "harsh" not "incorrect".
