The worst thing is how many 'Liverpool fans' would be in the corporate bit who understand nothing of the club or its history. It amazes me the amount of people who rarely go to Anfield, or have never been, to watch Liverpool manage to get cup final tickets at Wembley ahead of Anfield regulars.
The only time we could have been accused of bottling it was the SF, when if Distin hadn't slipped, we'd have won that game imo. We sat back when we should have hammered home the advantage, that was Moyes MO though and not a symptom of the mindset of the club or the fanbase. We're a different proposition these days, if we lose we usually do so on the front foot rather than parking the bus and trying to sneak a set piece and grind out a 1-0. Our respective current sides are fairly equal and that's not been the case in our respective modern histories
That semi final was classic Moyes, his approach to big games forced his players to make mistakes because of the fact he invited pressure onto them. Another game that summed up your approach to playing Liverpool under Moyes was that game where you were clear favourites coming to Anfield, might've been before the semi final, and you picked a really weak team and lost 3-0. I do agree that you've stopped putting us on a pedestal now and started attacking us, as you've done against others too like Arsenal, Man Utd etc. under Martinez but I still feel there are some games where you should have closed out recently like the 3-3 game where Lukaku missed a hatful of 1v1s. It seems like there's a mental block there at times stopping you getting over the line and actually beating us.
The Moyes tact of shutting up shop is the complete converse of Martinez default setting, but he's still young and learning his craft at this level. He's learning that pragmatism does sometimes have its place, but not the backs to the wall rearguard action that Moyes reverted to when faced with either defending a lead or tackling a better technical side. The bottom line is that we owe you more than ****ing one, lol, and it's about time that we started to redress the balance. I can't think of a better venue and occasion than Wembley with a pot at stake at which to start to do so Here's hoping
Would be a fitting epitaph for Kendall to have another Merseyside final. More so if we win it again....
Any of the young lads do well? Didn't watch the game last night couldn't be bothered with a crappy stream.
Good to see so many different players used last night but they all seemed to know what their roles are, and the team kept its shape and structure. And this is refreshing to see because we will need to rotate over a season and we need players to come in and perform without a drop in quality. Main first teamers rested for Saturday, clean sheet and a win. Perfect
He was **** at Man City and alright at Portsmouth. No idea what happened to him after that, I think he moved to a smaller club or something
