Yes it was Arsenal. We had a very famous and well loved Portsmouth born player playing as well.

I digress for a moment because I have recently been looking at some very old family papers and it would appear that I had an ancestor who was quite a clever cooky with steam engines and worked at the Swindon works of the old GWR in the mid 19th century. He was a very devout man and his wife was a schoolmistress. He decided a good career move would be to work in the marine industry so he got work at the Naval Dockyard in Portsmouth. He didn't stay there very long for his wife was very unhappy about the people they lived amongst and it would be unfair to Pompeymeowth and PompeyLampras to write what she thought of the people of Porstmouth. Any way he then moved on to Chatham thinking things would be very different there but they weren't. Unfortunately he was killed in an accident in the shipyard. After his funeral his wife packed up all their belongings and headed straight back to Swindon.

I'm so glad to have stumbled upon this little boozer. It has such a welcoming air despite that bloke outside in the cold, licking the window.

Do you serve Golden Glory Godders?

JWP seems to be quite fearless in front of goal too. Most of his strikes have been blocked or reasonably tame but it bodes well. Long range goals were something we lacked last year.

Another pint of Doom Bar please Godders. I'd like to see Tadanari Lee featuring at some point on Saturday.

Make mine a Jameson's limited reserve (18 year).

JWP has really impressed me this season, I can't believe he's 3 years younger than me....is it time to give up my dream of playing for Saints? :(

We are a free house and we serve everything. Glad you like the pub. What do you think of the new barmaid? She is permanent now but at a cost. I am destined to sleep in the shed tonight. The things I do for my customers.

With regards to JWP I think he is an exciting talent but I hope Nigel goes easy with him. I am expecting him to be rested on Tuesday with Cork given a game.

Jamesons coming up. I admire you taste sir. An excellent choice of whisky if I might say.

I know this thread has become a bit of a JWP love in but the lad has been a revelation this season. Let us hope that two or three more of academy lads push on n the same manner. I haven't seen Stephens play yet. Do you think he'll get a game on Tuesday or will Nigel want to use the game as a chance to get Fonte and Yoshi playing together and hopefully forming a great partnership?

That's always a fun realisation - when Chamberlain made his debut, my first reaction was "he's younger than me... ****." I'm still confident I could do a better job than Forecast, though.

Ward-prowse has been given the chance because of Adkins' continuous quotes of "having a pathway through to the first team". Adkins is looking towards the future, he wants Premiership quality players who are mainly young. This has meant that Hammond has gone out on loan, Chaplow's fallen behind in the pecking order and allowing JWP to get near the first team. What has also helped is an injury to Cork, and IMO Cork would have started these games had he been fit but after Ward-prowse's excellent, composed performances, Cork will have to fight his way into the team-and even if he does make it back into the team, he won't necessarily replace JWP!

Luke Shaw's only got one player ahead of him, but it is a position where mistakes are punished more often than they are in midfield, so it is best to play someone with experience and Fox is the best available option at the moment. Us not signing Buttner could be a blessing in disguise, at this rate I think that Shaw could be first choice next season. If Buttner were to come in, he'd have to wait a good few years and may not live up to his potential due to sitting on the bench most games.

Good news everyone. Peterborough lost so we aren't the only team on 0 points. That's their sixth game though so they really are crap.

Another pint of Old Thumper please barman.

An indication of the age of some of our squad - JWP's girlfriend is in the same year 11 class at school as my son !
