I'd imagine that is just rubbish, made up to strengthen their story. Clearly Villa are interested but I will wait until either the club or Wes comes out and says something re the transfer before making any judgements.
I tend to not worry about these things until something official has been said. All this press speculation is nothing but that, Speculation. I am in no way surprised that Lambert wants Wes at Villa. But until the club comes out and says "There has been a bid" or "He's going, sorry about that", I'm happy to ignore it.
On the one hand CH doesn't seem to really rate Wes and I can see why he might want to leave and I wouldn't begrudge him that if he gets to play more football in the twilight of his career. On the other, especially with all our injuries in the midfield, we should make sure we have a replacement/upgrade signed before letting him go and wringe every penny out of those b#@tards! It is worrying though if true about what he has said (And I think the bit about never playing again would be boarder line liblous if not true) Another player who appears unhappy at the club. Bah!
It does somewhat smack of opportunism to me - trying to cunningly nab our longest serving player for peanuts. If we hung onto him and let him go for cheap/nothing in the summer I doubt Villa will even want him (provided they're still in the Prem).
Not sure there is any evidence of that. No quotes, no word from CH or Wes, just something a crap journo has made up.
Lambert will be fully aware that Wes has hardly featured for us, hence the extremely low - almost laughable, offer. Howzabout Wes out, Toivonen in, job done? <prepares protective helmet and bulletproof vest emoticon>
Maybe a swap for Wieman? Given how little he is playing and his excellent service to the club I would not begrudge Wes a move although like the General I'd be looking to screw every last brass farthing out of Villa I imagine that Wes would only be allowed to leave were a suitable replacement brought in to improve the squad.
mcnally has said on the official site (per BBC, haven't seen it myself) that we have received no offers
This is what he has said Max:- CITY can confirm no transfer requests have been received from any players this season. Chief Executive David McNally said: “The Club’s focus is on improving the squad during this transfer window.” He commented: “As we’ve always said, no players will be sold against our will. We’ve received no transfer requests this season and have no intention of releasing any of our senior players. “Our focus this January, as with every transfer window, is very much on improving the squad.” Read more at http://www.canaries.co.uk/news/article/transfer-statement-jan-14-1282107.aspx#4yYoAwm2EPtXgpzU.99
This is it max http://www.canaries.co.uk/news/article/transfer-statement-jan-14-1282107.aspx take it or leave it, personally I would tend to believe it.
He said we haven't received any transfer requests, presumably that means from our players, not other clubs inquiring?
thanks guys, and yes DH i read it wrong. if true, puts to bed the media claims that wes has told his team-mates he won't play for us again
That seemed like bollocks the moment I read it. Just not the sort of thing you'd expect Wes to say. And how would this random Journo have heard this anyway!?
This is what Wes did say - although admittedly, it was a year ago. And 12 months is a long time in this funny old game we all love. http://carrowroad.net/cnews/index.php?post=wessi-remember-these-words
I think from McNally's statement we can read that Villa probably have put a bid in otherwise it would also say we haven't received a bid. For me this confirms what Mick Dennis was saying on twitter last night, derisory bid and were not interested
Villa's official twitter account has tweeted that AVFC have pulled the plug on the Hoolahan deal, much to the player's disappointment! Only a change of heart by NCFC can resurrect the deal!
have they said 'much to the player's disappointment' Dave? sounds BS to me, that's tapping up isn't it - if they are in contact directly with Wes and his advisors
