Agreed Hampy. Think we need a loan striker in. Maybe it’s the one striker up top system? I do think if we went two up front against Villa, we would have lost (benefit of hindsight and all that). One positive is that at least the midfielders are chipping in with goals. I’d prefer Jackson over Harrison going forwards. Not sure if it was due to tired Villa defenders, but he looked very pacey and was so close to putting the ball in the back of the net when that cross came through towards the end of the half.
I'd have settled for a draw before the game so to hold off 10v12 was very pleasing.Nothing like the capitulation when the same thing happened last season. Slowly and steadily we'll get there.
I don't think we need to sign anyone (of course if we can get a good forward in it will help). I'd rather we played 4-4-2 but if it has to be a 4-5-1 / 4-3-3 there is room to play Harrison off Jackson in place of Edun / Ward / Sears and to be more dynamic than we have been by switching positions in different phases of play and swapping Skuse for Bishop / Dozzell / Downes.
Okay just seen the highlights - cannot comment fully on the ref - didn't show the yellow. The one thing I WILL say - is once booked, you CERTAINLY do not put a ' challenge ' in like that - completely needless. Let us down today Edun whatever way you look at it. Decent point, but still winless so I'm not exactly buzzing. Hopefully break our duck at Derby Tuesday, Mick was unbeaten at both Derby + Wednesday so easy - 6/6 coming up, right? Also, as for those saying we need a new striker - MAYBE - but he only plays ONE through the middle ---- so 2 will be sub!? Do we really want that?
Don't know about the first one but the second one is a booking all day long. Not dangerous - that would be a straight red - but a completely ridiculous challenge to make.
Oh it is. Just having a debate on TWTD and I'm the only person on that site that seems to think the second is a definite yellow......... Hard work TWTD I may avoid it for a bit - not a lot of sense gets spoken. If it was the other way, we'd be screaming for the player to go. Sure, I love the town and want us to win - but you have to be fair to the opposition / ref too. Yorkie what the bloody hell's going on I'm liking all your posts recently
I look but don’t touch the TWTD forum. Everyone on there seems so wrapped up in their opinions - last season it was either pro-Mick or anti-Mick, no in between. This season they are already splitting into their pro-Hurst / anti-Hurst camps. It’s embarassing. You rarely get an actual debate on there anymore. Everyone seems so wedded to their opinions and biases, they operate in such black and white thinking. Sometimes I think posters on there just hope Ipswich lose to back up their own opinions.
I don't imagine how anyone can be anti-Hurst already. We have a net transfer profit, players to bring in in several positions - we have no idea what is going to happen yet and there have been a lot of encouraging signs.
Some people on there seem completely against him. Surprises me too, but there are some weird supporters out there. One bloke at the Arcade, where we go for drinks before the game, was adamant Mick should be back in the dugout before the game and that we’d be better off.
I really don't see the point in dwelling on the sending off, there was so much positive about today's performance.
Issue being it's naive and SADLY a stupid decision made us play over a half with 10 men vs a good side. Pretty much any hope of victory out the window. Lets hope they ALL learn from this as we cannot afford this to happen again. If people learn, no issue from me. Just concerned about how naive we appear to be in some regards.
You seem to be determined to pick the negative out of anything happening at the Club at present,it's like you're dealing with some sort of loss/grieving process
In regards to Edun. He's a young lad, with only 11 first team appearances . He'll learn from it and hopefully make him a better player. Oddly enough it might actually done us a favour as we all know that sometimes it's harder to play against ten men. Maybe we not as fought so hard if we had ten men.
Westy - this is the youngest side I have 'seen' at PR for 50 years! They are learning, and judging by yesterday's brave performance they are very much playing with passion, for the manager and have helped give us our Club back. And that run of Edwards out of defense, we never saw that under Mick!
So actually we need to encourage more of our players to get sent off. The fewer players we have on the pitch the harder we'll work and the better the result.
When everyone is saying we did well to get a point because of the sending off and even the manager questioning whether it was a foul or a yellow card (it clearly was) then if we don't debate it what are we on here for?
I want us to do the best we can do thanks!!! It's a forum, we're allowed to type both positives and negatives. I'm absolutely thrilled to hear it was a great performance from the lads yesterday - however having now seen both cards ( first debatable ) the second was very silly from the lad - and unfortunately a red makes it incredibly difficult for the remaining 55 minutes vs a good side. I'm fully behind Hurst - however am allowed to question various things he's doing. * Transfer policy alarms me on one hand / excites me on the other. Just going to take time to gel and unfortunately you don't get time in football. Not entirely sure THAT many changes and ripping up a squad is the best idea of all time - but he's got his players and been backed so lets hope it works. * His press conferences upon defeat scare the living hell into me. Harsh words indeed. New era and we'll ultimately see what happens. COYB.
That's all we can expect Westy, we need to get the strikers up to Championship standard so they contribute to the team performance or if thats not going to happen go to the loan market.
That's true mate but we're winless to date in a very very unforgiving league. Need that win on the board A S A P.
