I chose XB1 but for no reason other than I am used to my Xbox and have Xbox Live membership. Sony followers will probably stick to theirs too. Graphically the PS4 is supposed to be marginally better but if you're that bothered about graphics I'd get a gaming PC, frame rate on Sony's live platform is proving to be a problem (for really picky people) with Ghosts but they'll probably iron that out with a patch. If you're bothered about price it's PS4 as it's cheaper for the console by £80.

Some major franchises such as Call of Duty are developed on and for Xbox so don't expect any exclusives for that on PS4 but you will find some on Xbox. On the other hand PS4 will have Gran Turismo franchise which wipes the floor with anything Microsoft have.

All depends what you're after, one thing I will say though...if you like to play dodgy DVD's you've bought of dodgy stan down the pub, Microsoft have spoilt that, the ****ers.

Hard to tell where I was in an open world game. I'd obtained the shout from the top of the insanely tall mountain. But stayed away from the main quest as long as possible while I built myself up.

I was always a Playstation man-had the proper one, then a PS2. tHEN went for Xbox 360. It just felt cheaper and designed ot make money off me, as a package. Will be going back to PS4. I do'nt play enough to really appreciate the exclusive content malarky, or to tell the difference.

Pretty far then, couple of decent quests after that, worth doing just so you can get your own Dragon.

Indestructible... defo go with PS4 then. I kind of regret getting mine so early, it's supposed to be late march/spring time before any top games are released on either platform. The creators of Watchdogs have let both Sony & Microsoft down, that was the launch game to show off the consoles. Both consoles might be a little cheaper by then as well.

Are any of the consoles showing hardware problems like the early 360 and ps3? They both can't have nailed it first time have they?

Bri I can't speak for the PS4 as I don't have one, rumour has it their cooling system is poor but I've not heard of any overheating issues yet on PS4.

As for Xbox One, when 'snapping' (switching between one game to another and then to Sky TV for example) if you snap away from say Fifa to TV for a long period (it was over a day with mine) then go back to Fifa the game sometimes freezes but I play Fifa on live mostly so it's not an issue. My only real gripe with it is it does what the Mrs says perfectly and never does what I tell it to do!

Edit: These are probably software issues, you said hardware so nothing springs to mind...yet.

Last question fella if that's ok. Do you need internet connection to play/install games? Could I own one for years without ever connecting it to the internet?

You need internet connection for updates, and downloads, that is all. You can't activate codes for games (I got a Fifa 14 code for free with the console) and subsequently download them obviously but in terms of buying a hard copy of the game and playing it, you don't need connection to the internet. You also don't need to have Kinect sensor plugged in, contrary to all the lies.

Things like patches obviously help fix glitches etc so I'd recommend a connection, it's wireless so you could probably just ask a neighbour to use theirs for 5 minutes anyhow if you don't have internet at home.

One thing that actually pisses me off that I forgot about, is that you can't put a disc in and play it straight away (at least I don't know how to), it's got to be installed to the hard drive. It usually takes around 10 minutes but you can start playing it after 4/5 minutes whilst it's partially installed.
