Yep Moore is a dick. You only have too at all the **** he fed the media when we were trying to sign Wanyama. The guy I talk to said all along it was a done deal, yet we had Moore saying crap every week.

99% confident Wanyama won't leave the same time as Morgan does. But people have to remember that Wanyama was another player Cortese promised the world to. So yeah he will be gone in the not to distant future.

    Precisely.

Also, might help to glance back at what publications Moore and Wanyama were using during the whole Celtic/Saints/Cardiff 'transfer saga'.

The Sun, Scottish Sun and Mirror - the red tops.

Moore knows that these have the widest readership, especially in sport.

He also knows it's the easiest segment of the market to smear with a 'it's not true' denial. They've both got each other over a barrel.

I suspect that he didn't have permission from SFC to speak to Vic. I think there are rules about this and if the tape was made public he would be liable for litigation, perhaps there are some legal eagles out there that could clarify the situation? It is about time the FA got involved and stamped out some of this nonsense, it is damaging the game in the name of selling a few newspapers.

Perhaps I'm missing something and DTLW (or someone else) can clarify.

If the journalist has a recording why can't he release it?

Good question - let me explain. A few people have each other over barrels here.

Take 'The Sun' out of the equation for a second and let's focus on the media agencies who provide these stories to the national press.

It's not viable for a national to have reporters for every club, so these agencies cover 'patches' in the country and bring the stories to them. The nationals then decide whether they want them or not. There are, of course, some senior reporters who roam or are allocated to a major club.

    Right, now...

1 - The media agency have Wanyama (and his agent) over a barrel because he knows full well that they have an audio recording.

2 - Saints have the agency over a barrel because they'll look to cut access if the tape is released. Losing out on the potential income of a Premier League club, on your patch - which predominantly features a Championship (possibly Premier League soon) and League Two club - is not worthwhile. The size and regularity of articles on Saints compared to Cherries and Pompey is extremely notable.

3 - Saints have Wanyama over a barrel because if they don't defend him, he'll be exposed to more uproar. (He's going to be disciplined, most likely)

4 - Wanyama has Saints over a barrel due to the nature of player power in football nowadays.

The main points above are 1 and 2, but 3 and 4 also come into play.

The agent and player know full well that although 'The Sun' pushes the story to a major audience (and the media agency will have received a decent fee for the story), they're one of the easier papers to issue a denial against. There's now a stand-off because Wanyama has denied the story, but the agency cannot say any more or release the tape because it'll cause them to lose income and compromise their position on the south coast football scene.

Basically, Saints (and maybe the agent) have got Wanyama to issue his denial - the media agency are now backed into accepting the situation as it is and continuing, else they'll lose future stories from the club and won't get access. That causes a considerable dent in the agency's income and could lead to people being laid off and losing their jobs, it's a tough environment as it is without compromising the income stream.

Saints will presumably assist Wanyama in his public denial, discipline him internally and try to move everyone on (and keep the player!).

I'm looking forward to a team that weren't sold a over the top dream. So they feel lied to and want to leave. Will that mean no player will leave after that? Of course not, but it won't be so many. If you look at it, most of the players bought in and/or nutured by Cortese are gone.

I'd have to be smart and not totally obsessed by football to do that, FLT! :)

But yeah, even since October time, when I started working with a club - to January, when I agreed to work for an agency covering football - I've been exposed to a different side of the game. It one sense, it's quite interesting - in another, it's thoroughly frustrating and depressing.

I've read the whole article and allegedly Wenger has cooled his interest in Morgan.

Or he realises he's bang to rights and should probably just shut up rather than trying to mudsling at a journalist with evidence. :)

Removing a denial is worse than not denying it in the first place. Victor, Victor, Victor.
