We are in talks with Sevilla over their captain Vincente Iborra. He will cost us £12.5M

With Mendy looking like he is going we will probably need another midfielder and someone with an experienced head which Iborra brings.

Is a lot for a 29yr old and considering Sunderland had a bid of £7M accepted last year.

Its nothing in this market nowadays. Cambiasso was 35 when we signed him so we could easily get numerous season out of Iborra if he looks after himself

Am not saying that he is a bad player or anything, just that in the space of a year, his value has shot up by that much?

12m is peanuts for a 29 year old at this level, currently Captain of one of Europe's best teams. good 4-5 seasons left in him scores a few goals too for a defensive midfielder. get him in......

That whole transfer market has. The TV deal has made things go stupid

What was £1M last year is nearly £3M this year because of the tv deal.

As demand for players goes up people will just charge more for players because clubs know the Premier League teams have the money

I read he had a new contract since the Sunderland offer which would. Naturally take his value up

Is being reported that we have agreed a fee of around €12M (~£10.5M) and he is on his way for a medical http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/40491372

Can't argue with signing an experienced DM - can see us playing a 3-5-2 with 2 DMs that is in the fashion now.

He's a tidy player and will probably improve your team.

I'm not sure thats the position you need to improve the most though, you already have an abudance of central midfielders in the defensive mould in skill levels

Ndidi, Drinkwater, Mendy, Amartey, andy king.

That has just made your defensive midfield even more congested.

I've seen it reported that Ranieri wants to take Mendy back to France and that he's keen.

Amatey is a defender, he's played as a central midfielder more because we sold Kante and didn't have Ndidi.

Andy King is a player we all love and a player than will do a job but Iborra is a step up.

I think Iborra will be fighting with Drinkwater to start next season. But we may go with a 4-2-1-3 sort of formation with Drinkwater infront of the two CDMs where he has more licence to be creative.

All in all, this signing strengthens us.

Not sure how much of a playmaker he is but he is a big tough DM - will be competing with or playing alongside Ndidi with Drinkwater in front.

I don't think moving Drinkwater forwards is a bad shout. I asked the same question on another post. I think he has a pretty good touch and vision and could be an alternative for us if we can't get Sigurdsson. Plus he is the sort who could win the ball higher up the pitch. At the moment he has to get up and back all game and can get caught at the wrong end on a quick break by opponents.

I read he isn't just a defensive midfielder, he's an attacking midfielder too but they say because of his imposing physique he's probably more suited to defensive but it gives us options and he's a decent player and a definite upgrade on King and Amartey. I still remember James being better than Drinky first season so I'm not saying he's a better option than James currently but we need a strong, experienced midfielder who will grab the game by the scruff of its neck and take control. I would prefer Silva but for half the price this guy will do a great job I'm sure.

I think we'll see a mixture of formations next season and we're signing players to give us these options. I think Shakey likes 3-5-2, he even tried two at the back against Spurs ha ha

Yep, all in all a superb piece of business to get Iborra in for such a low fee, for a player of his pedigree in today's market.

He has officially signed for around £12M on a 4 year contract.

Superb! 2-3 more additions of this quality and we will have an exciting season ahead

Good stuff, a bit more experience in midfield. Looks like a DM that likes ghosting in the box and is pretty good with his head <ok>

Not the most important position to recruit in at the moment, but frees up moves away for others.
