This song haunted me for quite a while when I realised what a "Nantucket Sleighride" was. A beautiful song, (as is the whole album), but a tragic tale. It was also the theme to "Weekend World".
It must always be remembered (but sadly it isn't) that Elvis 'borrowed' heavily from the black artists around at that time. They were the true pioneers imo. Anyway, back to the thread. I assume that as Meghan Traynor said a couple of years back 'It's all about the bass'. I've always loved funky bass lines - gets me every time. So with that in mind here's a couple of fabulous bass-line classics performed live. Both my kids were conceived after me and the missus going to Level 42 gigs - I'm not joking. See how much I like to share with you guys? Mark King was at the height of his powers on 'Hot Water' right here. My mate is a semi pro bass player and was gobsmacked at this. Then there's another favourite of mine, Jamiroquai. My son is a rock fan but loves the bass in this one. It's knockout. Just to show you how awesome that bass is in 'Runaway' here's Jasmine covering it: Something awesome about female bassists. This is Marta from Italy covering Jamiroquai's 'Time Won't Wait'. Bloody hell what a talent....musically speaking.
Just thought I'd get it in before Vetch did, that reminds me, anyone remember the Monkeys? ...............
Nice try at derailing but it's not going to happen, Phil. Live and let live for ****'s sake, this is a fun thread for people to enjoy. You're making yourself look foolish.
Well after today's news it's got to be Bowie, featuring a very young Rick Wakeman on the ivories: Wakeman on Twitter: "...as I'm sure you can imagine I'm gutted hearing of David's passing. He was the biggest influence & encouragement I could ever have wished for"
This first one has been referenced as to Terry, his half brother a schizophrenic. Deep lyrics almost impenetrable. "I`m sinking in the quicksand", At the time he was in his darkest mood. Excellent singing and strong guitar. The "chameleon" will be missed, but his unusual legacy remains strong. Earthling stands testimony to his unique talent and "changes".
Let's lift the gloom that has descended as a result of David Bowie's death. Who better to achieve that than this little beauty. If there's ever been a more beautiful, sexy and talented female singer, then her name escapes me.
I tried putting up The Weather Girls singing "It's raining men",but nothing happened. Firing blanks is still the bane of my life.
