I stumbled upon this Mexican Band whilst looking for recordings of ' Besame Mucho'. It became an instant favourite, and I play it a lot.
Not being able to play an instrument, I envy those who can.

Kiff I said that wonderfully technical musicians RARELY write great songs. Not that they don't ever do it.
As a child of the 70's I grew up listening to a lot of the same stuff you probably heard, but I don't feel the standard of musicianship is any lower today, just less self indulgent but more sonically interesting. Music is more diverse now than it's ever been.
I never want to hear 10 minute guitar solos ever again, and the same goes for drum solos, and even bass solos (oh god no).
It's so much easier today to find new music, with the Internet making any genre accessible. As a kid I remember that you only got to hear what Radio 1 was playing a lot of the time. That's not the case anymore, and the Top 40 means nothing. I've come across so many bands on Spotify just by clicking the 'similar artists' option that I know I would never have come across unless I went hunting for it.
I totally agree with you about each to their own, there's no such thing as 'wrong' when it comes to musical opinions - and that's why it's fantastic. There is something for everyone, you just have to look for it.

" Who's on first ?"

No music this time, just a classic comedy routine from way back.

More Cole Porter. This time 'Begin the Beguine', with Artie Shaw. This recording is from 1938, and sounds amazing.

great stuff, though released on a terrible, terrible record label!!!

Am intrigued by your comment, Kwame. Care to elaborate/enlighten.

you don't see the name of the record label and the design on the vinyl in the youtube clip! Made me feel quite ill!!

Seriously though, such an array of music styles and eras on this thread, very enjoyable

"Change" is good, trundles. The idea of the thread is to possibly introduce people to artists/music they are not familiar with. <ok>
