    My old man was stationed in Burma during WWII.

    I remember him showing me the route they took to get there.....sailed from Blighty down past the Bay of Biscay, through the Med, Suze Canal and over the Indian Ocean to India. From there, he travelled across India to Burma on a train. Six weeks all told in blistering heat.

    Seems I was correct. It was weird that they went off the say so of ex-servicemen, yet now they've done some actual research and found it was impossible for the planes to be there <doh>

    In case people are wondering how much documentary research people do after excavation, it's usually very little unless they find something unusual or wish to compare their site with previous sites of a similar nature, with obviously the majority being done beforehand to justify the excavation in the first place. Either they've had this excuse lined-up for a while, or whoever's in charge is hopelessly incompetent!
