Surely they were more open to corruption when they were amateurs. They needed the money more and weren't at risk of losing their livelihood if they got caught.

Of all the **** threads on Not606 this is the stand out king of the ****e thread. Some of the paranoid and bitter posts in it by the usual suspects are disturbing!

I find that argument quite funny really. It's like Man Utd haven't spent millions on improving their squad, or breaking transfer records consistently through the 90's. But as soon as Chelsea or Man City splash the cash, MUFC are against teams spending wildly for players.

Oh we have spent and on occasion we have broken the british transfer record. No argument there.

Of course when United break the record ( 3 occasions in PL history ) the results were brilliant 66% of the time. Arsenal and Newcastle had success breaking the record in the PL era but everyone else seemed to only pay silly money for flops. Liverpool included ( they are second in the British Transfer records right now ).

So yeh we spent, bloody well for the most part when we did pay large fees. The players tend to remain at the club for a very long time and we dont get shut of them ( Veron aside ).

Its not spending money thats the problem. Its wasting of it and the last 3 British Transfer records were incredible flops. All complete joke transfers.

Oh and in the 90's we broke the record once. Andy Cole. £7million. Arsenal and Liverpool broke the record a few months later. Andy Cole of course being the PL second highest goalscorer of all time. Probably a transfer record that goes on the success list.

Liverpools 2 records are Collymore and Carroll. Compare those to Uniteds Cole, Veron and Rio. I think we can all agree United have a better knack of buying players that fit the team.
