Quite the opposite TC, our club have massive ambitions, the sole plan and purpose of our current board is to get us back into the Premier League asap. The average wage of our squad is roughly £2k-£3k a week. The likes of Stephens, Green, Euell et al who signed despite interest from Premier League/Championships show that they signed BECAUSE of our ambition and nothing to do with wages! They take an intelligent decision to sign for a club with ambition like us, rather than sign for clubs like Watford or Palace who are relegation fodder every season (or risk falling into the footballing abyss by signing for the likes of Stoke or Birmingham).

The board spoke about reducing the wage bill from 6mil a season to 3mil. Early noises from them is that they have achieved this- of course we don't know exact figures though.

The squad is easily better than last seasons, but as I said, that's only half the battle. You often see teams overachieve and gain promotion, or vice versa in teams that are deemed ''too good'' to go down down, doing exactly that.

Your point's about the level the squad have played at are a bit redundant. I showed that your promotion squad hadn't set the world alight in football- most of whom had played most of their careers in League One themselves (with the exception of players like Harris, who apart from Millwall, flopped at his other Championship team). There are many exceptions to that rule- but whether they are up for the fight is another thing. The talent is there... as WWOCB is trying to put across, it isn't as if we have signed League One journeymen. They are players who last year excelled at their clubs, mixed with some experience in players like Euell and Alonso.

A few of the players spoke about which clubs were interested, but for whatever reason they decided to join Charlton. Money might have been a motive as no doubt they are earning more than past employees, but in the case of Dale Stephens, I imagine Burnley could offer more than us. Perhaps we just offered Burnley that little bit more money as he is a safer risk at League One than the Championship for the money Oldham wanted.

But I guess by your logic Liam Feeney will be a waste as he has plied his trade at Salisbury and Bournemouth the past few years <cheers>

Possibly, but Feeney will have to do really well to get ahead of Henry, Boazza and N'Guessen in the pecking order - There is a big difference though - KJ is very good at turning average players into good ones - CP is not <ok>

Charltons lack of success has no bearing on Millwall <ok>

Have a look on wikipedia if you're unsure on club honours for both clubs, we have a longer list so guess that would make us more successful. Thanks for eventually posting a question :emoticon-0110-tongu

TC If you are talking about majors honours then I think you are wrong . If we are talking about major honours such as FA Cups, League Cups, or Premier League titles (or old first division ones), then sadly between Charlton, Palace, and Millwall we have won a total of ONE. That was Charlton way back in 1947. All three South London sides have been runners up in the FA Cup, and only Charlton have been runners up in the old first division. Pretty poor effort by the three South London clubs, compared to the other areas of London.

Very good question - I don't think any of us have ever had a Biilionare owner so have had to historically sell our best players to balance the books. To be honest - I am glad that it is that way - scrapping for survival is what Millwall is all about and the good times are far more memorable when there isn't many of them <cheers>

Well we did have Project 40,000 which was supposed to make us the Arsenal of South London but without the billionaire, just a good manager and good intentions.

Arsenal were once a South London club - The first ever Millwall v Arsenal fixture was played North of the river, and we were the home team <yikes>
In fact before they got a place in the Football League, it was offered to Millwall first on the proviso that we moved to North London - we didn't, they did and the rest is history.

To be honest there's probably a lot more pride in being a South London fan, than our North, East and West counterparts. I can't imagine getting much pleasure from being a Chelsea or Arsenal fan for example. I love the feeling of being somewhere far from home and hearing the words Charlton Athletic being mentioned, or turning on the radio and hearing the name of our beloved club. It must get pretty tiresome reading about your club in the National Paper every day, it being a household name, and I can't see how clubs like that can enjoy their seasons when the expectations are for them to a) win the league b) do well in the Champions League with the whole world watching (and with every draw being seen as a failure*).

*alright I'm completely ignoring the various threads which appeared on here on Monday night, but you get the picture.

I think I should get the comb as the stats on Wikipedia for Charlton do not list ALL of our winning trophies, whilst Millwall's includes runners up trophies, promoted, and youth team. It even includes three times winners of the East London cup back in the 1890's, and Western Football league champions. Whilst our own wikipedia page makes no reference to Combinations champions on four seperate occasions, Metropolitan league winners back in 1964, Kent Senior Cup winners on 5 seperate occasions, War time FA Cup runners up in 1943. Nor does it include 1987 play-off winners v Leeds Utd, and that's just for starters. I don't have the time to really go into all of our trophy winning seasons, but rest assured it is far more than that indicated on Wikipedia.
