Yes with the ability to say '' you can win titles and the CL ''. We're only in the position to say '' stay with us and win the carling cup and you will get a small pay rise''.
I think Vert started going downhill when they started playing him at left back (for us anyway). Our two center backs have been messed about or injured all season.Time to pick the best two, when fit and keep playing them. I can see Dawson leaving for QPR at the end of the season, not that he's the best cb but does seem always interested. WE DO NEED SOMEONE UP FRONT THAT KNOWS THAT IF YOU PUT THE BALL IN THE OPPOSING NET,WE COULD WIN MORE GAMES!!!! PERHAPS DANIEL COULD BORROW HODGSON"S PSYCHIATRIST?......AND NOT JUST FOR THE FANS!
Completely agree, didn't he turn down Arsenal because they wanted to play him in midfield. I think he gets pissed off because the other players round him aren't good enough, although not a good attitude I think he's right
Said exactly the same thing yesterday! We've seen how good vertonghen can be. As they say, class is permanent, form is temporary. He just looks fed up with it all. I don't blame him.
Am I in the minority when I say Verts is a fairly average defender? He's a classy player but miles behind King and Judas in terms of being a solid and impressive defender. If Verts went, I don't believe he would be difficult to replace.
Not sure if I agree with that one Boss. I would class Dawson as an average defender, if both players were up for sale I know who the big clubs would be in for.
Well Sergio Ramos is an average defender but plays for Real Madrid and wins awards each year. I'm sure Verts could play for a bigger club but in terms of what he offers us, I don't believe he would be difficult to replace.
Average is being kind to Dawson! Ramos has to be far better than average or he wouldn't have played for Real for as long as he has. He also has over 100 caps for Spain...they don't hand those out like confetti!...
Defenders at big clubs like Madrid get away with more suspect performances. Bayern Munich are a fabulous team but if you look at their centre backs Dante and boeteng, they really aren't that great defenders. As for Ramos, he regularly gets shown up, sent off and he's lucky that Spain in general don't churn out top defenders.
Fair point, I do think he's a quality all round footballer though and playing with better players would bring out the best in him, I get the impression he has a bit of the Berbatov about him and people aren't on the same wavelength
Oh!...come on. Spain are both the current World and European champions. You don't achieve that by having "average" players!...in any position!...
Spain played 2-8-0 during their peak. They could get away with having suspect centre backs as the opposition hardly saw the ball!
Sorry, we'll have to agree to disagree. No average defender would have survived under Mourinho. Spain play a certain way, yes. But the guy has well over 100 caps. There's no way that can be classified as average!.
Depends how we're talking average, as in terms of big clubs, Ramos imo is average and gets away with dodgy performances, as does Cahill and Luiz at Chelsea (under Mourinho) so yes we can agree to disagree but I know I'm not the only one here who views Ramos as being average!
Average compared to whom? Average players do not gain over 100 caps for a team in Spain's class. Yes, Mourinho currently has Cahill and Luiz, but for how long? Personally, I agree about Cahill. He has improved recently, but still isn't that great. Luiz? Depends what you want in a defender. He's quick, mobile, passes very well, etc. However, he gets caught out far too often defensively - usually covers it up with a sneaky foul though. I don't like Luiz, he has a nasty streak..
Aren't you focusing too much on the Spain caps as if you focus on his club petformces then he won't be remembered as a great defender, especially in the big games in Europe where he's made big mistakes. He regularly gets sent off, booked etc for being caught out of position. OK he may be part of the great Spanish team but in terms of club football he makes far too many mistakes for someone who is lauded with praise.
Ramos has managed to accumulate 18 red cards while playing for Real Madrid and Spain. I think he's trying to create a deck.
