couldn't agree more...Hoddle, Pleat, Santini, Jol, Ramos, Redknap, AVB, Sherwood...all 8 in 12 years...and only 2 were any good imo...
So yet another footballer wants to "prove himself" by moving to a club that's already winning things to prove that they can help a team win things. The true heroism of a man that he might want to play for Real Madrid etc to maybe, just maybe, help them, against all odds, win a trophy or two! What a load of crap. Frankly almost every time a professional footballer opens his mouth I feel even more embarrassed that it's people like me, slavishly cheering for them and buying the tickets/subscriptions/merchandise etc that pay for their personalised pool tables and novelty-shaped swimming pools. Reading him say anything but "I play for Spurs and want to win for this team" kinda makes me feel "Go on then, **** off to some CL team. I hope you get stuck on the bench and the fans vote you worst signing in their history". Seriously. ****ing footballers. The game'd be better off without them... (Jesus Christ this sport is ****ing boring, though. Why not just put the league placings in order of net wage/transfer fee spend and have done with it? Let all the best players join one of about ten teams in Europe and every Wednesday night enjoy watching the lot of them roll around in the penalty area like ****ing morons screaming in mock agony to try to achieve some "glory" whilst other idiots spend at least a hundred quid to watch these lying, pathetic twats who, for the most part, don't even provide that much more footballing entertainment than the average Sunday League game).
The chronic pain every year or so of us selling our best players lessens slightly as we have all excepted that is the way of the club. Next summers sales will not be as devastating as previous years as they are not game changers , they have all gone.
This is the reason why I constantly take the piss, Lenny. It's my way of coping with the constant pain of being a Spurs supporter! We seem to be destined to be that club that was never quite good enough to make the big time, but just big enough for the odd top player to use us as his stepping stone.
Vertonghen is class. I don't blame him for wanting out and expect Lloris and possibly Eriksen to follow him out the door soon too. I can see him at City, they need a centre back and him and Kompany together would be class.
Vertonghen's probably in quite a strong position to get a move to one of the Champions League favourites, as he's a reasonable centre-half who can actually play some decent football. When you see the likes of Mascherano playing out of position at the back for Barca or Demichelis moving at 1mph for City, then you can understand his desire for a pay rise. It's a position that we badly need to address in the summer, anyway. Kaboul's crocked, Dawson's slow and can't handle playing so many games, Chiriches is on the piss and Vertonghen's injury prone and makes mistakes. The whole backline needs a bit of an overhaul, starting with the left-back position and the coaching.
I'm not sure a major overhaul is wise (if we can avoid it) based on the success we had last year overhauling the attacking part of our team
The only way I see Vertonghen staying is if his form continues as it is. He's been poor as of late and so that could put off potential suitors. He's been linked with Barca but so has Koscielny, who's had a far better season. Kaboul's injury problems are a real kick in the teeth, seems to be Ledley version 2 (just not as good, but still quality). Vlad's exciting but also worrying at the same time. I like the fact he wants to get the ball forward but sometimes he's too keen, he'd benefit from playing with someone like Vertonghen or Kaboul, someone who has the speed to cover for him. He's probably the weakest defensively but does come in handy with his pace. Dawson's lost it. Looks half the player he once was. Doria of Botafogo looks a real prospect. Stefano Denswil of Ajax looks another star CB in the making with the right guidance, maybe Cove could give a better insight though.
Denswil hasn't played two consecutive games since the return of Moisander, wasn't ready for the first team. Veltman is way further in his progress but makes gigantic errors once or twice every game.
Young foreign defenders will need time to adjust to the PL. Assuming we sell Vertonghen, that leaves us with Dawson (rubbish), Kaboul (sicknote) and Vlad (David Luiz MK II). I think we could do with going for someone like Lescott instead of two young defenders with potential.
