Vertonghen wanted to join us initially, but wenger pulled the plug, that was when he started making all this noise about wanting to join spurs and how they were his first choice, when in reality they were the only club that wanted him.
You can't honestly believe that Vertonghen is a better player than Verm and Kos. While he is doubtless a talented player, you have never seen him play in this fast-paced league before and he will need some time to settle. The first time you play a Man U or Man City, we will see how he copes with the pressure.
Vertonghen went to Spurs because he's guaranteed 1st team football - the competition he saw was very much lacking, and ageing. Arsenal have Kos, Verm, Merts & Djourou all 26 or under, along with Miguel & Bartley coming through. Of course he chose Spurs.
Tbh i would have loved vertonghen at arsenal as he seems like quality and is versatile. However he doesnt seem to have any idea of the rivalry beteeen our two clubs and was fickle with regard to which club he chose. These factors really discouraged me from wanting him and i hooe our remaining cbs prove he made the wrong decision.
Spurs are always gonna think they have better players than ours. They delude themselves and always have done. Unfortunately the facts dont bear it out do they ? Trying to convince them otherwise is a waste of time. Kos is twice as good as their signing , but i suppose they are gonna win the league again now . Suffice to say , they will have a good strong challenge for the thursday night cup.

Vertonghen is unproven. A CB of that age is going to take a while to settle. Being honest, it is probably a bit early to decide whether he is going to be good or not, but at this point in time Vermaelen and Kos are better simply because of their PL experience. Vertonghen may end up being better, who knows, but he has the look of a David Luiz to me. Great fun to watch, but a little too exciting as a CB perhaps.
