Viewed the match video this morning.... and the 1-3 scoreline didn't really suggest the closeness of the match......I was disappointed with Matthews reaction for the first, I thought he could of done better.... and as for the third goal credited to Burn it got deflected into the opposite corner by an unlucky Zak Vyner....so not sure how Burn's name was on the score sheet....although Vyner won't complain about that....I thought for a 20 year old he did well to come into such a high profile game and compete so well. Simon Church really didn't have long enough to stamp anything on the game....I'm sure he can bring experience to the team if Adams can workout how best to use him.
I think the first goal may have got a slight deflection from a Wigan player only feet from Matthews. The rule is that it's only an OG if the initial shot is off target but is turned on target by the defender. By that standard, it wasn't an own goal even though Matthews would have saved the original attempt. At least I think that's it....
Any deflection was quite small.....Matthews seemed to be left flat footed.....poor cover in front of him possibly....remember a new central defender to fit into a solid defence....unfortunate maybe.
We got beat by dumb ass officials being incompetent and clinical finishing by a team who have been doing it all season. I said it previously, we can bleat all we want now because it ain't gonna make one diddly squat difference to the result. Move on, next opposition please................
