This Ref has been a busy boy so far. 146 yellows and 4 reds but he has done 39 matches.

The last 2 results have been decent and I think especially the last one. I think a while ago we would have feared a game like this one but now there is a different confidence around the ground. Once again this isn't going to be easy and we are still a bit depleted staff wise although a couple may well be back now. We all know we can win this as long as the players aren't too knackered. You can do it lads.

God almighty that was bleddy awful. First half was nothing to talk about at all. Head tennis for most of it and the grass didn't suffer at all. Both teams as bad as each other with a Ref who was half blind and a lino on the Lyndhurst side who couldn't even see in a straight line or quite often couldn't see at all. Have to say that second half and none of the above improved much. The holding tugging and pushing at corners was so obvious even I could see it at the other end of the pitch. Stevenage were more into this activity than we were but we did it as well. I counted at least 4 penalties not given at the Devonport end against Stevenage. I almost wish I hadn't bothered going tonight. Not kean on Tuesday nights anyway but this really wasn't worth the effort. We won so that's the best thing about tonight. 3 points is all that mattered even if it doesn't make much difference to the season. I still don't think we are play off material and even if we are I'm not sure I want us to be.

We suffered one of the poorest halves of football we’ve seen at Home Park this season or certainly in the last few months anyway. This was is large part due the dark arts deployed by Stevenage and very poor refereeing.

As an example, their No 19, Reid, although a decent player, seemed to have been deployed solely to obstruct the keeper at corners and free kicks. The grappling that ensued seemed invisible to the man-in-black.

They employed a high block, which prevented Argyle from playing the ball forward well and the whole thing degenerated into a stream of free kicks, long balls and head-tennis.

I presume Cleverley changed a few things at half time and had a few words as the second half was better for Argyle if not fully up to recent standards. The fact the winning goal came from a centre-back heading in from a corner is indicative of how the game was generally but I think Argyle did deserve the points. Just about. Recent form suggested we’d win this more comfortably but they are above us in the table, so there can’t be too many complaints. Three points are three points however they’re won.

The sponsors’ MOTM was Mathias Ross and the votes on the PAFC fans’ poll has him on 69%. That’s not all because he scored; he played well generally, but it does tell you a lot about the game.

A nice touch by the way came when Stevenage made three substitutions at 78 minutes.

All three departing and the first two coming on were boo-ed resoundingly. Jordan Houghton came on to a round of applause from around the ground.

Luckily he didn’t score an equaliser mind you.

Agreee Sensible, what a poor match, this holding and wrestling in the box is so effing annoying, why can the refs sort it out. yeh we scored from a corner but the holding is so bad. only good thing was the 3 points. we are puching up now.. another test saturday and hardie and mumba return.. Glad to see Houghton got a good reception . did not even bither having a drink after.. well i may miss saturday as im off to Portughal l sunday to find some of this sun stuff

Oh BTW, make a note of a rare occurrence which might come up in a quiz or something. The home team reserve goalkeeper shares a surname with the away team reserve goalkeeper. And it's not "Smith" or "Jones".

Luca Ashby-Hammond versus Taye Ashby-Hammond.

I'm thinking this is no coincidence.

TWO Ashby-Hammond's in the squads.....good grief.

Brothers...both keepers..........Luca 25.....Taye 27......this month.
