Southampton only won 2-1....but reading the write ups there was a gulf of quality between the teams.....and Southampton have been raking the millions in by selling players.....this could be a hard season. Of course Huddersfield's manager is probably the most informed manager in the league about how Argyle play....he's sat in the directors box enough times whilst not having a team.
Neil Warnock having to be escorted across the pitch to keep him away from the Argyle fans already inside the ground. Had he continued around the perimeter he wouldn’t have reached the dressing room by kick-off due to the demand for pictures and hand-shakes. What a strange thing.
Hazard, Mumba, Houghton, Scarr, Edwards, Hardie, Whittaker, C Wright, Gibson, Randell, Kesler-Hayden. Subs Burton, Butcher, Warrington, Azaz, T Wright, Waine, Earley, Roberts, Issaka. Pleguezuelo....suspended from last season. Miller, Galloway, Gillesphey....injured. Lack of defenders on bench.
Formation........3-4-3. ............................................................Hazard ......................Edward.........................Scarr.............................Gibson ....Mumba.................C Wright.................................Houghton......................Kesler-Hayden ........................Whittaker..................Hardie............................Randell Subs Burton, Butcher, Warrington, Azaz, T Wright, Waine, Earley, Roberts, Issaka.
Another formation has been put up using a ...4-3-3. And of course another player lay-out....I cannot be bothered to change it.
Argyle...3-1...Huddersfield......F/T. Whittaker...6mins. Mumba...73mins. Hardie...76mins. Good result. Sticky patch before half-time.
Where to start! Bullet points: This really is a tough league. Huddersfield wouldn’t be in anyone’s Top 10 but they’re a lot better than anything we faced last season bar Ipswich. We need to sort out the “playing out from the back” malarkey. Straight balls out to CM nearly cost us dear in the first half. Joe Edwards struggled against their best player and as a result Morgan Whittaker didn’t get into the game as much as we’d like. We’ve bought two £1m players but stealth star signing is Kaine Kessler-Hayden. Wow. Just Wow Where did that come from? Goal of the Season competition is over already. What a goal from Mumba. Knife through butter is all I can say.
I just followed it on the BBC website....and a casual check now and again on pasoti. Wow didn't a few pasotites take a disliking to Conor Hazard's ball kicking abilities.......unfortunate name he has there. Game went offline.... or so it seemed at the beginning of the second half until about the 67th minute......had a quick look at Sky and it seemed to be the same ? I thought for a moment the weather had blown Home Park away.
Argyle TV had a few hic cups to start with but got it sorted.. No replays though which was a shame. Argyle off to a good start.
Hazard’s kicking is a function of what the players around him do and what they’ve been told to do collectively. We’ve now got 2 CB’s to receive the ball not 3 and often the full backs weren’t getting into a position to receive it. It’s not as simple as “blame Hazard” but it needs sorting out quickly. It wasn’t such a problem in the 2nd half as in the 1st, so clearly words were spoken at half time.
Well done Plymouth and good luck for the rest of the season. I have a feeling that we made a mistake in letting Mumba go.
Well I don't totally agree with that notdistant. He is called Hazard and to be fair I thought he was some of the time. I agree that they are doing what they were told to do first and foremost. But Hazard was not told to try to take on a forward and then have to save the result. The wind played a big part in this today and to be fair to the keeper it certainly didn't help him. It was awful for parts of the game and swirled around the ground in a none to readable fashion. It wasn't the best of spectacles if honest but it was probably as good as it could get in the conditions. The first goal was a complete cock up by Huddersfield. I'm not sure how many efforts they made, very badly, to clear the ball yet it still fell to Whitaker for a tap in. He said he would be happy with one and he got his wish. The game was then to and fro for a while but gradually in my opinion Huddersfield got a foot hold in the game and you could almost smell the equaliser coming in the last 15 minutes of the half. It should not have been a shock to anyone when it happened. First half performances were pretty standard all around with the exception of Randal who seemed overawed by the league they are in. However, after the first 20 minutes he seemed to come to terms with it an improved no end. Second half started where the first half ended with Huddersfield doing most of the pressing. But, cue Bali Mumba and a run and goal to impress on any stage. He picked up the ball on the left just inside their half. He then went passed three players as if he had an invisible cloak on. It just opened up and he slotted in with minimum fuss. The ground went bananas. A couple of minutes later and in went Hardie following a through ball he ran onto and again he slotted it home with minimum fuss. Have to say it was about the only real chance he had all game. There was around 17 minutes extra time in this game in the two halfs. It's gonna be a long season. It's hard to say what to make of the result today. Huddersfield did look better than a lot we played last season but as suggested they probably are not going to be ripping up the form book ib this league this season. However you can only beat what is in front of you as they say and we did. Good day all around and we are 3rd at the minute. Hurray!!!
My first early morning game...enjoyed the game, good football most of the time. Did you wear your new shirt Mr S. ? Now for my afternoon nap..
I don't want you having dreams of me in my new shirt BC but the answer is yes although it wss bleddy cold and I wish I wore my big coat instead of small jacket.
Forgot to mention MOM and who impressed me. Kesler-Haydon looks a great signing. Really impressed and he will do well for us this season. We already know Mumba and what he can do but his contribution and goal were brilliant. Whittaker was as if he had never been away and he got his tap in he said he would be happy with. Hardie for once got one chance and put it away. Scarr didn't put a foot wrong at the back. MOM is difficult choice. I guess it should be Mumba for the goal but K-H was a very close second.
