No way should the derby goal have been disallowed as it wasn't clear and obvious. Problem is once you are in the position of reviewing it they are looking at imposing rules on a micro level I stead of a wider broader review. Having said that it was technically offside so I've queried my own statement!!

From the way they were replaying it, it looked like they were checking to see if the ball made contact with one of the players it went through before it reached him, which would've made him onside. It does need to be quicker though, but without trial and error how can it be?

yeah, that's the way I see it, stuff like ball out of play, offside, encrochment is either yes or no, so every mistake is clear, but handball and fouls are contextual.

i believe clear and obvious is meant to mean its not used for subjective decisions rather than small amounts of offside.

I'm hoping it does away with the bullshit at corners, the amount of wrestling and GK obstruction is ridiculous. In a way I'm dreading it, unless we sell Ogbonna before it comes in the league as he'll be giving away a pen every corner
 
Got some derision for this viewpoint when we’ve talked about this in the past, but until they show the review footage inside the stadium, confusion for those in the stands is going to continue. This and the ref’s getting a microphone to announce and explain the VAR decisions once they’re awarded.

Think the offsides should go back to daylight or half a body(it’s too late to think about), but being offside because of a stray limb seems nuts

The stray limb kept them onside for their first goal. Swings in roundabouts.
I think it was offside, it just took far too long to get to the decision.

I'm not sure from the camera angles that it was definitely offside, it depends which frames you look at as the pass is played. That's where the clear and obvious bit comes in. (what's the difference between clear and obvious anyway?)

But surely that IS the point in VAR? A stray limb or no it is still offside, and the correct decision was made.

The time it takes is an issue but with very close calls like that it is going to take longer than if someone is stood a yard offside. I am assuming (possibly incorrectly knowing what mugs run football) that the technology they are using to draw that yellow line thing for offside is very accurate so it should be pretty simple if they can trust that tech. Yesterday took awhile as it wasn't obvious whether the Derby player who dummyed the ball from the original pass had touched it so needed to be watched from a couple of angles to make sure they hadn't.

Commentators mentioned that in the PL next season that they will have a 'tactical camera' to help with camera angles.
