Mark Lawrenson is the best co-commentator on the box by a mile. He is the only pundit who refuses to condone all of this diving crap and says it as it is. VAR should be a good thing. Where a Ref didn't see something and it is fairly plain it should have been given is good reason to use it but it has to be used right. Players are so good at throwing themselves down these days that they have to have practised it. Pundits generally condone it with their "he was entitled to go down" statements. Managers do it as well. As a spectator who pays good money to watch proper sport being played I for one hate it and not only are opposition teams being cheated, I am being cheated as well and that includes my own team if they do it. The only reason you need technology in any sport is because the participants are becoming dishonest. It's the same in Cricket now with the snickometer. When I played a batsman would walk without having to be told. Now they simply don't move unless told to for any reason. Sportsmanship is a word from history and doesn't apply anymore.

 

I would call it a dive.

 

What we need is a second VAR in the next room keeping an eye on the first VAR so he flags up any incidents on time.

Or the VAR is watching the game on a 10 second lag to the rest of us so he has more time to review any incidents

Don't encourage Matth to wet himself on his YouTube channel about VAR when he pretends he is a pundit again.

 

The Neymar penalty decision has vindicated VAR imo.

Though I'd have preferred it if he hadn't dived, and was wrongly denied a pen. That would have been funnier.

 

The Mitrovic incident was hilarious.

 

VAR in other sports allows each team's captain to have a set number of reviews. Why not have each team's captain have ONE review per match? If you get it wrong you've used it up. If you're right you still have the review left.

That would sort out a lot of the problems in the effective use of VAR imo.

 

How about we just bin VAR and carry on as normal?

In reply though, isn't that exactly what the referees are doing... and isn't that the problem? When they use it, it actually works. The problem is they aren't using it when they should be.

 

I just don't like people ****ing about with the game.

It's hard to accept change but some things have improved the game. And some have come from world cup tournaments e.g. the back pass rule being changed, the goal line technology. I think given time VAR will as well.
