this ^ all that's happened is the opening of a huge can of worms and not even getting rid of the controversy i.e. the Mata "offside" .
They are called phases of play. The ref takes it back to where that phase of play began or have I made that up? Ultimately the ref decides.
As far as I'm aware if the ref misses e.g. a push in the back, the video ref communicates that to him. If there's no call to the ref's mic, and the ref himself doesn't spot something then the game just carries on. btw I'm not in favour of VAR I'm just pointing out what I understand of how it will work
"Phases of play" ffs? Really? A hideous Americanism. If I want "phases of play", I'll watch gridiron (no I won't) or rugby (posh blokes slamming each other into the mud). I'm Var from happy with this whole thing (sorry). Bin it off, it's ****. Adds nothing, slows down a game that is supposed to flow.
Video assistant referees (VAR) will not be used in next season's Champions League, with the head of Uefa saying he sees "a lot of confusion". The International Football Association Board, which rules on the game's laws, meets on Saturday to decide whether to approve the technology permanently. If it does, then Fifa is committed to using the system at the World Cup. But Uefa president Aleksander Ceferin said: "Fans see the VAR screen all the time but nobody knows how it works." He added: "We will not use it in the Champions League next season. "For me, it might be a good project but we shouldn't rush it."
