I haven't read the majority of this thread and assume it's based on articles from the Daily Mail and stats drawn from #weisamassiveclubyoufackingkants but I'll comment anyway! I hoped for top 4 this season and it looks like we'll achieve that. Personally I don't see why a 150million investment should guarantee a team going from 7th to 1st. I doubt there is an example of that happening, even in relative terms, since the PL began. I suspect there are several examples of clubs spending similar amounts to make less of an improvement than United will both in real and relative terms. Chelsea, Liverpool and City for certain. I've been a critic of LVG but luck and judgement has got him to a position where the current runaway league leaders felt the need to park the bus against United in a home game. The way the game panned out was almost certainly unprecedented in the history of English football, has a team walking away with the title ever looked so negative against a team that had no realistic chance of nicking the title? Given FFP puts United on a different level to every other club in England we are now in a position to to put together a team that can challenge for the title and also restore some credibility for English football in Europe. One thing this season has taught us all is English football needs United back in Europe.
Yep, but Jose`s tactic let you down. When being outplayed by 10 men he had no idea how to change things so you could take thew game to them.
Off the top of my head I think City spend £400 million to go from 8th in 2008 to 3rd in 2011. Then of course Mourinho spent £110 million last season to take Chelsea from 3rd to 3rd. But of course he's a genius, so it would be unfair to include such a massive improvement in any calculations. I feel we should at least try to include an example of SAF in there too. But given he never spent more than £70 million in a season, no matter what we won, that's pretty tough tbh.
