I'm not sure if he actually means that or is just having a little giggle as that's what all Liverpool/Chelsea/City fans have been saying all season??? God knows, I care less. Anyway, on topic, I think where we are is about par really. Should we finish second then we're ahead of any perceived schedule but fourth or third is about what was expected and achievable I reckon. If you doubt that, imagine finishing fifth and asking yourself if that's ok and acceptable. Definitely not in my eyes so we're bang on schedule and 100% on course to be league title challengers next season, and challengers again in Europe.
This. No matter how hard the wums try, for me it has always been: getting 4th - on target getting 2nd or 3rd: - better than expected but no big deal getting 5th or lower - underachieved
I think where he has failed was the limp domestic cup challenges. If Spurs and Villa can make cup finals this year then there is no reason why United shouldn't have been able to given he had no European football. Getting top 4 was the aim but also the minimum requirement for a club like United and given the money spent. He should have on top of that delivered at least one decent cup run as well. I'd say he's just about done enough and your recent run suggests you're heading in the right direction. Much like Liverpool last season and look how they went from strength to strength
True. Regarding the domestic trophies, it was piss poor on both fronts but the reality is that while it would have been a nice bonus getting us back into the CL mix really was THE target this season. We've nearly secured that, I suspect that we will, so he's been let off really.
It would be insane of any club to specify a domestic cup like the FA or league Cup as an objective in this country. The domestic cups are so dependent on luck. Playing at home or away, a premiership side or not. Look at the RS. This year they went to 2 semis on the strength of not meeting any top sides. And when they did meet any half decent ones they are humiliated.
Not saying it was an objective but you went out to MK Dons and Arsenal at home (you never lose at home to Arsenal!). No excuses for that when you've been playing pretty much once a week all year. You'll get top 4 and it'll be classed as success off the back of Moyes but the pressure will be on to really deliver a lot more next season - especially when you throw another 100 odd million at it in the summer. No squad, team or manager is perfect in this league. Going to be hard to predict again next year.
No excuses? MKDons: LVG miscalculated and played total reserves and possibly gave the wrong signals too. He was new to the scene. Arsenal: Mistakes by valencia gifted 2 goals to arsenal. Yes, even at home **** happens.
Why not? Other than your opinion. Can see United going further than any English side next season in the CL.
