Was talking to a lad at work who used to be in the marines, and he said the gun work in that scene is absolutely bang on from Val. Where he is looking, where he is firing, how he reloads etc. All exactly how they do it for real.
Brilliant film, but tends to be over looked in favour of the Naked Gun and Airplane! movies. I wouldn't really say it's a slow starter, just that once it hits its stride it's consistently funny. And loads of quotable lines...
"Wait, you've dropped your phony dog poo"
"What phony dog poo?."
"I know a little German, he's sitting over there"
"Nick, I've tried everything: the embassy, the German government, the consulate. I even talked to the U.N. ambassador. It's no use, I just can't bring my wife to orgasm"

It was the tunnel, the boots when he is crawling across the field. Chocolate Mousse, which you wouldnt get away with now. The little horse. As you say you need to watch it a couple of times as you miss loads.
Naked Gun & Airplane are good but I prefer this.
Absolutely no way on Earth I'd joke about stuff like that Wayne lad.
