Australia is the best place in the world to watch sport either live or in a bar. Followed the Ashes tour there in 86-87 (a lifetime ago), and was working there at the end of the last Ashes series - amazing luck for our 2 wins in 25 years. Was back for work last October, caught the Grand Final and the excellent atmosphere for the Rugby World Cup. Even though it was in NZ Sydney was buzzing with fans passing through, big screens on Darling Harbour, bars doing a roaring trade. Unfortunately my job has changed a bit and Oz is not on my list anymore, but trying to find an excuse to get out there for the Lions.
The banter is always great, the enthusiasm genuine, and they are completely one sided. Brilliant.

Best day of cricket I ever had was Boxing Day last series at the MCG. Massive crowd Aussies out in 40 overs for 98, England reached stumps at 150 ish for 0. Rain delay meant 90 minutes for lunch (several frothies). Brilliant. Barmy Army are great to be amongst. They took over my city local and boosted beer sales hugely.....

Closest to that was the 98 series when we got rained out on Boxing Day (spent it at the MCG Tavern with mostly Brits) and saw 18 wickets drop on Day 4 for a remarkable England win. Steve (doesn't make mistakes) Waugh decided to take the extra hour to force a result as Aus needed 30 runs with 6 wickets standing at that time.

Put the Ashes Boxing Day test on your bucket list.

    SB you speak the truth!!!

Did Boxing Day at the MCG in the 86/87 series. Botham and Gladstone 'The Seagull' Small took them to pieces, all over in 3 days. Brilliant.
