Is it reminiscent of when Rodgers came in with his tika taka .... triangles .... pass, pass, pass? It works until it doesn't and then you do need a plan B.
No cos rodgers was a complete spoofer as I said at the time (10 years ago) enjoy it while it lasts. I got pelters for saying he lucked into formations as per. And as per i was proved dead right. Slot has not needed to demonstrate a planned yet so we can't know but we have seen them pin Ipswich in and not let them out. So it will look like the second half v Ipswich. However to score against a parked bus you have to make a chance. It's pretty clear we are not interested to much in half chances or hopeful shots so far. The utd stats showed a far more "European" shot tally and a good proportion on target and a goal scored for each nearly. It's not 25 shots 3 on target stuff. It's work a real chance and be patient. So I can only presume slot will want them to be patient. If a side defends the with of the 6 yard box with their lives and goes to block everything then we will I suppose get to see what we do against thst. My ever constant gripe with klopp in these was playing in front of it. Just going side to side rather than trying to turn them and get behind wide. Zero men in the box. In theory if we play the slot game you should see gravenberch and macca doing something I've also advocated for years. Midfielders staying with the ball and not just getting in front of it. If you've in effect two cbs and two cms covering and a side pinned in then your 10 in szobo can join a Diaz and Jota in the box and you can have trent and salah wide. Bodies in the box plus ability to get behind a side wide and turn them means chances of a different type. I want to see if slot will do this. He's meant to play from wide. So far we have actually seen vertical rapid passing and cutting sides up with breaks so far.
It will be telling when he has a real test and also when he changes the starting 11 which is supposed to be seamless but we all know never is. You can coach the same tactics with different players but they don't all have the same strengths and weaknesses which inevitably means the tactics 'look' different. The current midfield of Mac, Szoboszlai and Gravenberch is silky smooth. Replace any one and it looks different; replace two or all of them and you lose that smooth, easy on the eye football for one, and secondly it's more easily got at.
Gravenberch is getting a lot of plaudits but you are right it's all 3 together playing the triangle..macca is being seriously under appreciated as the others are getting all tje plaudits in the media.
