On the replay he was a little. Caught it with the back of his boot more which took it a few inches wide.

As I said, it's too close, too quick and "ball to hand" imo. If it was in the goal mouth I'd say the same, but a ball that went off at an awkward angle, how could the defender possibly anticipate that.
