I'd like to think he's looking at the business, or has his trusted advisors looking at it, and realising they're reaching a tipping point where Wenger is no longer viewed as the "Saviour" by the fans, but more of an obstacle between the club and success. I think there's a chance he will be given the whole season to turn things around, and perhaps next, but if they finish outside of the Top4 2 years in a row, he'll be removed. By then, however, fan power may have already removed him.
