If USA make the quarters it's when I'm in New York. They'd better do it.

    Reaction from Klinsmann

Brave words, he is clearly emotional (which is to be expected).

That was an amazing cross by Ronaldo, gotta give him credit for that. What was amazing about it was that placed it so perfectly. What was not amazing was that Varela was left with too much space. At that point in the game, he should have been unreachable no matter how good the cross was.

What wasn't amazing was that after the goal was scored he didn't fill with joy, run over to his team mates and celebrate ecstatically.............for the second time in the match. The guy only thinks about himself and doesn't care about his team or his country. Phil Neville got it right at half time.

"Hey, do British people find American accents really cool too?"

Do Americans know that there are a lot of English accents...I presume they are thinking of the Southern generic type accent. I gather that they think we sound intelligent...not wrong there, then :). I'd like to see them cope with Brum, Scouse and Geordie. They couldn't understand Cheryl Cole.

I remember ringing an Irish HP printer technical support guy for a customer years ago. I'm afraid I lost my rag with him because he had been sending my customer around the twist with his unnecessary experiments and conclusions to her problem. I mentioned his so-called calming bloody accent, which wasn't calming me down and could he pull his finger out and give her some proper advice instead of fobbing her off with drivel and a lack of responsibility acceptance. All the while he was apologising [in his very calming Irish accent - I had trouble keep my temper going] and she was giving me a massive grin and thumbs up.

Quite satisfying little episode that. He couldn't do enough for her. I believe a free newest model printer resulted.

Please bear in mind that I only lose my rag as an intermediary on condition that I'm 100% sure of my ground and that the customer has been thoroughly piddled about with. :)

Anyway. About Portugal's defence. I think Jose could have improved it. Let's face it, it was poor.

Cheryl Cole was actually on the US version of X Factor and got canned after two weeks. The rumor was that she was fired because no one could understand her, which led to Fox being inundated with texts, emails, letter, etc. from people saying we had no problems with her accent. Which is true. I can understand Cheryl Cole just fine.

I'm sure that most Americans have no idea how many different English accents there are, and the same in reverse. In fact I doubt most Americans or English are aware of how many accents there are in our own country. Always way more than you think, because there are pockets that people forget about, and it's those pockets that exactly because they are forgotten and isolated that tend to develop their own accents/regional dialects.
