I'm actually envious of their achievements. It's good to see a team playing well & who are up for it. It's great to see the reaction it's getting Stateside. Hopefully it's not too long before such scenes return to England & we can be proud of the 3 lions again.
Im sure the deal could be done for a reasonable sum. A PL team coming in for him, it would be a no brainer not just for the player but for the sport in the US. The time to buy him was when we were in the Championship when he was making almost nothing a week. I suggested back then that we sign him. He is a good solid defender. Not of the Davies caliber but a real solid player who would provide good backup.
Don't think that's ever been in question from the fans. Otherwise why did 100K fans go to Germany in 2006 & over 10K to Brazil? It's down to the players/ management, the top clubs, and the FA to deliver now.
Yea sorry when I looked it up I didnt realize it was his 2012 salary. He got a new contract last year that gave him a raise this year.
I don't know but some folk wanted Costa Rica to beat Italy and were best pleased when it happened! It's beyond words.
It would help for sure. A ton? Maybe not, he isnt as popular of a player as Bradley or Dempsey. We would be mentioned during every US national team game, we would be featured more on ESPN and our games would be on NBC live far more. The fact that Altidore played for us to would probably help solidify some American fans but would it mean more money to the club in merchandise? I am sure some but not sure how much extra we would get.
LA Galaxy fan in peace! It's a bit of a rumor, but it's most likely true that Omar Gonzalez's new deal from the Galaxy last year was more to increase his value after the World Cup so we could get a higher profit than to actually tie him down longer term. He'd be great in the PL in my opinion, tall, strong, and deceptively quick because of his long strides. His progress has stagnated a bit in the last year or so, but I think moving to Europe would help push him in the right direction. After his first season in the MLS, in which he was the best defender in the league, he really pushed himself in the offseason to become even better because he had his eyes set on the national team. The next year he pushed him self harder and worked on his weaker parts of his game, he's not great on the ball, but he's miles better than he was. It seems becoming a national team regular has made him lost a bit of that extra will to improve and I think moving to a tougher league will reunite that spark. Word of warning though, he's been prone to ball watching the past couple of months which is why Cameron started the first two games in the tournament. Gonzilla was brought back in due to Cameron's poor performance against Portugal.
I was very impressed with Gonzalez today, from what I have seen of him this tournament he certainly would fit well in to the EPL.
I also watch LA living in Northern Cali (SJ territory). It seems to me from watching him play for LA that some of the ball watching and slight drop in form was due to coming back from that injury that he had. I personally think that he is on pace to get back into his old form. Cameron coming into his place had more to do with the injury to Gonzalez than any fundamental weakening of his game in my opinion.
His ball watching has been an issue for the past year or so, and I think it's mostly a product of complacency. His injury may have had a minor impact on his role in the World Cup, but I think his form not being great had a bigger impact. Jurgen made the right call in dropping Cameron in favor of Gonzilla today, and I'm going to assume Omar will be starting the next game.. If be puts in a performance like the one today than we'll have a great chance of going through to the quarter finals.
Our crazy conservatives have spoken! http://www.anncoulter.com/columns/2014-06-25.html quote of the piece ",,enough is enough. Any growing interest in soccer can only be a sign of the nation's moral decay. " or this wonderful sexist piece "Liberal moms like soccer because it's a sport in which athletic talent finds so little expression that girls can play with boys. No serious sport is co-ed, even at the kindergarten level. "
