supers - I'm afraid this history and trophies thing not being important doesn't wash at all. Just ask Paul Lambert
if you fail to win a trophy in the next 30 years, will they still be relevant? also, say for example we win the league cup next season, will you then come on here and say 'its not a proper trophy'?
Yes, and you knew the answer before I wrote it despite it being an almighty achievement nearly getting a result against Arsenal in the semi final in 2011!
it wasn't a great achievement getting to the semi, it was a great achievement beating Arsenal with those players, they performed out of their skins and it was a joy to watch. Your first League Cup win was when the top teams didn't compete in it and even now you have to admit it is the runt of the litter as far as trophies go otherwise Kenny Dalglish would still have a job, wouldn't he?
It's still a major domestic trophy and a ticket in to Europe, no matter how irrelevant anyone considers it to be. Other than League 1 & 2 winners in recent memory the Milk Cup (League Cup) was a great coup in 1985 when the big teams did take part, and took it seriously.
Equally, if it was the be-all, end-all you claim it to be, then you'd probably have Hughton and not us!
Your initial point, up to a point is valid though. It is the little brother/sister of a trophy now, but only to clubs who appear in European competitions most (if not every) seasons. Man Utd, Arsenal, Chelsea, (perhaps now Man City), to an extent Liverpool fail to take it seriously anymore, making it more of a mediocre success when achieved. Where Liverpool get it wrong is by living as if it was 21 years ago (or more) believing they still have a divine right to compete in and win everything (talking about the board, not the fans - but obviously they are not to be excluded )All the same, should we ever get out hands on it again, i will be well happy
its a myth that the league cup isn't taken seriously. there was a spell of maybe three years where clubs dismissed it but check out the winners from the last twenty years... man utd arsenal aston villa liverpool aston villa liverpool leicester chelsea tottenham leicester liverpool blackburn liverpool middlesbrough chelsea man utd chelsea tottenham man utd man utd birmingham liverpool some big names in there. its not easy to win it
ok, to qualify not taking it seriously - they put out 2nd XI teams (in most cases), which just happen to be better than most other 1st XI's (in most cases, on the day)
Ipshit banging on about ancient history again. NO ONE CARES LOL. Seriously, I'd rather be premier league than have a few dusty ancient throphies, history is a boring and desperate argument. Everyone is bored of Liverpool fans and their history too. Desperate fans. Sent from my Android using Tapatalk
