Agger ****s up alot on set piece positioning...he's got alot to work on imo, he's not untouchable in the CB role. We should definitely buy one quality CB this summer, perhaps two if Coates moves on and Carra drops back to coaching. Or look to move one of Kelly/Wisdom over. But both Agger and Skrtel need competition. They've slacked alot this year. Anyway, City aren't as great as people make out. Their defence is average, Kompany is poor this season, Hart has ****ed up alot, Aguero is quiet, Tevez off form and,well, they're there for the taking if we go at them. I really hope we believe we can beat them because they're over rated currently.
I think it will still be tough due to their home form of just not losing BUT I agree 100% on the defensive front ( our end). We need some fresh blood back there and some fresh players that can compete right now.
Skrtel's easily been as good as Agger this year. He got dropped because of the Oldham debacle and yet we still made mistakes against Arsenal. I doubt even Carra would have been able to "lead" a defence with Coates alongside given the way he played in the cup games against Mansfield and Oldham. Our defensive problems in the league have had nothing to do with personnel. It's the same defensive unit that's been capable of keeping clean sheets on a regular basis season after season. The biggest issue is with the formation and the way Rodgers wants the team to play 20 passes between centre halfs before shifting it forward
That works for me. I always think the two CB's should have at least three or four years between them. The partnership is built but when the eldest moves on, the younger one shows the new guy the ropes, therefore continuing the defensive partnership. Just in theory of course
Skrtel has had years to forge a partnership with agger and I'd say other than first 6 months of last season it's been pretty poor in terms of goals conceded and results. I don't think either of them are half as committed as carragher, by that I mean willing to put their body on the line, take a ball in the face etc. they don't make the blocks or last ditch tackles he did/does. Add to that skrtel makes a lot of mistakes and they are both quite slow I think it's time for a change. Wouldn't mind seeing agger and Kelly or agger and wisdom next season but ideally I'd like to see a proven top centre back come in to partner agger with those 2 as backup for cb and right back.
