Common sense has prevailed, just a warning beforehand that some 'may be offended'.

without a doubt ITV [watched the itv news at 6pm ] are by far and a very long far at that more balanced with their presentations and their presenters are more presentable! The BBC seem to be hell bent on getting the " general news aspect on the screen before anyone else, often poorly nowadays poorly researched ...just looking for the "impact value [biggest negative ]" gone is their impartiality they pick out impact statements [ and have a system in place that should you wish to complain is a mine field to get to a way to speak to some one [ even even Ofcom sort of agree's it is the only way ] dozens of complaints must go unheeded.
seems zimmermann sold the gun for a quarter million dollars! seems BLM was set up originally not for what it is being used for now….set up because he was not guilty, they [travyon family ] used perjured and fraudulent witnesses to try and get him jailed ………………

we used to have tit bits with our daily paper delivery once a week I can remember it from the very early 50's but think it lost popularity after newspaper's became more enlightened. I may be wrong but the pages may have been stapled?

I would be critical. But as another individual pointed out Newtons law. The BLM demonstrations caused a counter reaction. The consequences were ever so predictable.

Yes it was predicted by posters. You were asked did BLM's actions cause resentment? You did not answer that question. Here was a manifestation of resentment.

one for "I like this....I think only people with Facebook account will be able to see it..

a well meant 9 mins and some very good points but whilst he see's the danger of the media he still doesn't quite get why statues are put up … states categorically Colston was put up because he shipped 80,000 slaves … the company shipping slaves started before Colston became involved with them and carried on afterward … OK no excuse he did ship slaves .. but his statues and the naming was more for his other 40 odd years of trading and what he built or endowed … as bcfc says ...just saying …
he could likely do well on a committee that looked into the past without fear or favour … some of the organisers of the protest group BLM COULD LEARN A FEWLESSONS FROM PEEPS LIKE HIM !

For what it’s worth, my view of Colstons statue is a bit mixed from last week when I was angry.. first of all it has made me more aware of the history.. I am more understanding why BLM are upset about it. because as it stood, it was glorifying him to look a total hero.. but I don’t think they had the right to tear it down, vandalise and throw it in to the harbour giving the green light for other statues to be destroyed throughout the county .but I do think that the City of Bristol should have placed a plaque acknowledging the full history..
I think Colston’s statue should have remained, acknowledging In those days slavery was thought to be, an accepted practice but has no place into today’s society to be considered a celebratory monument.

Agreed with you completely until the end.

If for some bizarre reason there had been a statue of Hitler erected in the 1920's, I am 100% confident every single one of you would have backed it being taken down, at least if it was done by 'official' means. And I doubt most here would have been against the inevitable defacing it'd have received constantly.

Most of us realise, know, believe that slavery was, is and forever will be a crime against all life, I also know my own ancestry going back a couple of centuries and we were agricultural workers or farm labourers going way back, not slave owners, I am proud of my bloodline and I won't bend a knee, will stand tall and defend them against anyone, any creed, any religon, any 21st century movements who try to impose and force a way of life on me or mine and I am sure most members of our nation feel the same way.

I am proud to be English, proud of our nation, have pride in our history, principles, democracy, civilised life style, juidicial system, I just love our nation and all of the people that is a part of it, recent arrivals and older natives, some parts of our history judged on modern thinking and times were terrible and we should acknowledge that, not deny it, educate rather than try to bleach or brush out of our heritage, we were also responsible for the banning of slavery worldwide, we should be proud of that, it does not mean we forget the henious, stinking way we treated people prior to those days, how about other nations such as France, Spain, Portugal, Holland, Germany, Italy, Russia, China, have a study of them, it's a worldwide problem past and present, they should also investigate people like Magabe, Idi Amin and a host of others listed here - https://historycollection.co/ten-corrupt-african-dictators-modern-history/2/, \ black people also have failures in there homelands and history, people should remember that.

I'm personally glad the Colston statue is down and gone, I'm pissed off it was done by brute force and thugs trying to impose their minority views on the rest of us, it should have been done by the agreement of the majority and involvement of the people of Bristol.

I also hate members of the extreme right, the way they have swastikas on their t-shirts whilst pretending to defend the Cenotaph, I hope these contemptuous, fascits thugs are also taken off of our streets and banged up, they don't represent me in no way, shape or form.

People are flocking to live in our country, we should welcome those that would contribute to the benefit of the nation, stretch out a helping hand to those in dire need but always be confident that we are and always have been British, we will remain British, develop and move into the modern world, as one, united nation.

Probably says more about you than me.

Wiz there with probably the most central and sensible post of the thread to be honest. I only take issue with 'any 21st century movements who try to impose and force a way of life on me'. BLM imposes nothing on you. It is trying to reverse what has been imposed on them. The rest of that post is amazing.
