Danny Cullip too . . . in fact, basically most of that team probably qualify as 'unsung' heroes. Funnily enough, I just came across this interview with Super Micky Conroy in the Lancashire Evening Post: http://www.lep.co.uk/sport/football/big_interview_with_ex_preston_forward_michael_conroy_1_3447421 Anyone remember a young David Beckham scoring for Preston against Fulham (about 1/3 of the way down the article)?
Does replying to my own post officially constitute having too much time on my hands? Beckham's goal for Preston v Fulham: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RC39UCZgYMs 1 min 55 secs Isn't that Terry Hurlock in the middle of the Fulham wall? Really must get some work done now.
Martin Pike. In the pre-Adams era of mediocrity, it always seemed to me that when we were drifting to another defeat, Morgan, Eckhardt and Pike were the ones most likely to roll their sleeves up and start dragging the rest of the team into action. re: Danny Cullip. If I hadn't chosen to be Captain Morgan, my user name would have been '12 Danny Cullips'. I'm mystified as to why his career suddenly drifted down to non-league levels.
That is a very good point. Can you remember seeing Zamora swear at his own when he scored a few seasons back. The other players were calming him down and he was going nuts. Now look at him, clearly takes the roof off the Cottage every time he plays.
There was a huge difference between BZ & Salcido. The latter's been rubbish this year but at the time BZ was getting criticised by a handful of fans he was playing well, as most of us testified. Not a proper comparison.
Slightly off subject but my mate at work just spoke to ex-fulham player Neil Smith http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neil_Smith_(footballer) If you remember him at all???
WDWW, Neil Smith was known as "Smudger" to Morgs & co. Played in midfield. Kind of remember him scoring a goal on Boxing day in the Div2 Champions year. I think he went when Bracewell took over from Keegan.
I always liked the look of Neil Smith at right back, until someone pointed out to me that we had never won when he played there. After that, even though I couldn't see that he was doing anything wrong, I never felt comfortably with him in that position.
