Hmmm I wonder why Swansea changed their name? Maybe it was because they changed from a town into a city. Wimbledon became MK Dons when they moved from Wimbledon to Milton Keynes. Wolverhampton Wonderers have not changed their name. Citing examples of American sport? I wonder why the three of the latest 'soccer' franchises have decided to go for tradition with the words 'football club'?

    1) Swansea Town became Swansea City because Swansea was made a city in 1969, so that one makes ****ing perfect sense you clown.

    2) Wimbledon became MK Dons because they moved to Milton Keynes and technically are a new club. Also, why the **** would you have a club in Buckinghamshire named after a part of London? I have an idea, let's move Fulham to Cumbria, but still call it Fulham!

    3) Erm... people probably call Wolves 'Wolves' because it's their NICKNAME.

And it will still be Hull, and they will still be the Tigers, and the supporters will still call it "City." I'm glad we could end this discussion with agreement.

Obviously you missed it. Allow me to repeat it: "And as I also said, all this name-change business is ultimately a distraction: what should really matter most is the club's performance on the field."

but in reality, reaching an fa cup semi final at WEMBLEY, live on tv, in the MOST famous domestic cup competition in the world, is just not enough worldwide coverage, we need to get get 60" tvs to the wildlife in the jungles of asia.. as any asia football fans will know about OUR game.

only two premier league participants in the FA cup last four, and you know what? it will be HULL CITY.. makes you think huh?

we can all laugh at your despair

I am not a man of means, so let's not turn this into a "oh, you don't have enough gear so you're a plastic" whinge. Behold the glory of my Hull City AFC scarf, which I bought directly from Tiger Leisure's online store years ago. I proudly wear it every season, and I tie it so Roary is always visible to passersby.

As I said before, I'm glad Dr. Allam stepped in and invested millions of his own money and had the foresight (and good luck) to approve the hiring of Steve Bruce (someone who OLM himself mocked as a "fat ****ing dinner lady" but he doesn't describe him that way now). If not for Allam and Bruce, there would be NO team to support. If the club was run by the types of geniuses who have called me all sorts of names and derided my arguments in this thread, Hull City AFC ("The Tigers") would be a distant memory. I don't care if the name stays or changes: it will still be Hull, the club will still be The Tigers, and supporters (myself included) will still call it "City." So you're kindly requested to take your filthy gobs and infect another thread. You're done here, children. Run along.

what's OLM opinion on Bruce got to do with your argument?

i said davies is a has been, and a waste of a signing.. but i know now.. he's an absolutely brilliant player.. so you wanting humble pie? ( and i'm not ashamed to accept it. ) i wasn't keen on bruce honestly.. but he's been an absolutely ****ing genius.. where's your argument going intowards allam? it's perfectly natural, for people to question a new manager/signings in football... that's football mate, we love eating humble pie! but allam? where's the humble pie.. or are you going to exalt allam, as a reason for reaching an fa cup semi final? but i guess you'll bring the same old.. " allam saved this club, without him there would be no hull city " argument.

Just because Allam rescued the club doesn't mean that every idea he has is good.

IF we reach the final.... anyone in the marketing world would confirm that to change your name after being given the greatest exposure in the world's most famous and watched domestic cup would be ludicrous.

People around the world would be scratching their head next season saying 'Hull Tigers? Is that the same team that played in the FA Cup or are they City's rivals?' And don't argue saying the colours would make it obvious - both Hellas and Chievo play in yellow and blue.

AFC Bournemouth didn't change their name to supposedly increase their appeal in the Asian markets. Your Swansea example makes you look a clown. Wimbledon was not changed for marketing reasons. So if that is all you can come up with you want to heed the old saying about it being better to keep your mouth shut and be thought a fool than open it and confirm it. What relevance does sports where the Yanks call themselves World Champions in competitions with only american teams have to the biggest sport in the world. You Wolves thing is a joke. It is easier for fans and the press to abbreviate the longest name in the football league to Wolves. But it is their nickname not their playing name.

Actually there is one other team which changed its name. Birmingham. In the 1940s they added the common, lousy name City.

There are three new teams being formed in the states. All of them called City.

The decision is entirely with the FA, the Premier League are going to go with whatever they decide, they will no doubt remind the FA that there was no fan consultation and I expect them to vote against the change, but they're not going to refuse to accept the decision.

Do the FA require fan consultation? Looks like I've got it wrong, but I felt sure the Premier League's rules were the ones asking for the consultation and they could still refuse to accept a name change if they decided to.

The Premier League have told AA that he should poll the fans, but he's obviously not done so, this will form part of their FA submission, but whatever happens they will accept the FA decision.
