The reference to "Deano" initially made me think that it was a reference to the late Dean Richards, a colossal player for Saints during his time in the squad but who left to join Spurs in a fashion that disappointed a lot of fans. It is amazing how forgotten he now is despite being such a great player for us between 1999-2001. Seeing as he was acquired on a free, it must have been one of the best bits of business by the club. It was unfortunate that he had to retire before fulfilling his potential and tragically died way too young. I think he was a really gifted player and good enough to be our Player of the Season in 99/00. You don't hear his name banded about so much these days but there was a time when he was a massive factor in the team.
I think that of all the transfers away from Saints Morgan's lack of success at both Man Utd and Everton is the most perplexing. True, Luke Shaw should have really stepped up and his failure is baffling but Morgan was already the finished article when he left. I cannot accept that he was over-rated and one of the main arguments I have had with my Man Utd supporting brother-in-law is that he never fulfilled his potential and was not "rubbish." As a player with the vision to find his colleagues with an exquisite pass, I would have to say the he was unequalled amongst any Saints player I have seen. The only criticism I would level of him was his lack of goals and his propensity to get booked for some pretty full on tackles. That aside, I would love to have him back in the side.
Is that because someone has finally put up a view that you've always wanted to say yourself TLL but never felt confident enough?
No mate I don’t think it is that.........it’s just sometimes someone’s opinion is so outlandish there doesn’t seem to be a need to disagree with it in print. Non the less your opinion is what it is.......nothing wrong in that.
“As a player with the vision to find his colleagues with an exquisite pass, I would have to say the he was unequalled amongst any Saints player I have seen.” C’mon Ian. I do not believe you never saw MLT.
Morgan can't be ****ed from what I have heard, just wants the money and not train hard etc. Shaw's mental health problems and Mourinho being a **** has destroyed him sadly
Sad to hear on both counts. Loved Morgan when here and Shaw really should have stayed here at least a bit longer. He needed careful nursing when here...moved to a big club with big club pressure far too early. Perhaps he insisted on the move, but, if not, he was ill advised.
Shaw was starting to establish himself in the Utd team and showing the promise that earned him the move, then he broke his leg. I think that is the biggest reason for his failure at Utd as being out for so long will have a big impact on mental health and fitness.
A story this morning is saying that Mourhino is no longer after Rose, as he is happy to go with Young and Shaw as his main left backs, plus a new youngster, Diogo Dalot. Has he repaired his relationship with Shaw?
Luke Shaw got badly injured didn't he? It's probably that as much as Mourinho that appears to have stalled his career. Not sure what went wrong for Morgan at Utd tbh. Or Everton, though I wouldn't neccessarily expect him to thrive in an Allardyce side, which tend to be very direct and not too cultured in midfield. I thought his tackles for us were usually exquisitely timed btw, often fully committed but rarely dirty.
Would love to see Morgan back, and Shaw. Will never happen. Not sure either have had enough gametime to realise what their potential is though.
