Anyway, I'll throw another one out there. Lawrie under achieved with Saints and should have won more with the teams he had.
Poch would have won something by now if he and Cortese had stayed. (Actually that might be a very popular opinion!)
I can go one further: He wasn't actually a very good manager and massively benefited from having the squad assembled by Pards. Half our team in League One ended up being full internationals (Fonte, Schneiderlin, Ox, Lallana, Lambert, can throw Antonio in aswell if you like although he didn't play but was called up)
I’ll never forgive him for playing the injured Steve Williams in the FA Cup semi. Arguably cost us the League title.
I get what your saying, however it was really an over achievement for the club with either young players coming through or older players at the end of their careers. Those older players may sound now to be huge names (they were) but they were not really at their peak and it was excellent use of them. A little like Fat Sam when he was at Bolton. Not a bad one to throw out there, but I wonder if you’d feel different if you were around at the time. Good one to discuss though, so hopefully others join in on this. Good squads, good young players coming through, best players sold before we achieve.... ring any bells?
I say it every time. He stood just near me in the warm up and his knee was like a balloon. What a player though.
He might not have been a good coach, but I think he was a good short term manager of people. A little like Pards in that way without the ego; all out of a management manual with some fancy/cheesy motivational lines. Works at the beginning but then becomes stale and too cheesy. Ps “cheesy” looks wrong without the e at the end, but it is correct.
I loved Nigel, however I do understand why some people wouldn’t like him. Not everyone loves the management spiel and the positive thinking one liners; me I love them! Nigel
Why’s that? I appreciate what he did (though I don’t think he’s a great coach), but just never warmed to the guy personally. Thought he was desperately cheesy.
