Religion is an easy way to manipulate people and make excuses for violence. You think King Philip II of Spain really cared enough that England wasn't Catholic to send an Armada to invade England? Do you think the Spanish conquistadors really conquered the Americas to teach people about Christ... Or that Turks and Arabs conquered hundreds of tribes just to teach them about Allah? People use religion as an excuse for what they're doing but there is usually a different reason... Generally they want power and religion is a great way to make excuses for what you're doing.

Guidance? From books that are so contradictory even scholars disagree with the meanings and translations and that rehash earlier stories? There's better places for moral guidance if you struggle to grasp it without help.

You'll discuss most things in my experience but you also have no intention of taking anyones opinion seriously if it differs to your own so you'll talk in circles until you're happy that you are once again correct.
