Rashford and Shaw out for the first leg. Casemiro to come straight back in. I'd like to think Eriksen starts but he may go with either Sabitzer or McTominay. I have to say McTominay played very well in both the last two games. This will be a tough tie for us imo. A good 2 goal lead in the first leg would be great. Sevilla's form has been a bit mixed, they've only won 3 in the last 10 games. But worth noting that in both their last two Europa knockout games they've done the damage in the 1st leg. We need to avoid that. DDG AWB --- Varane -- Lisandro -- Malacia -------Casemiro ---Sabitzer? Antony-------Bruno-------Sancho ----------------Martial Eriksen to come on from the bench.
Don't know much about Savilla players but there doesn't look much height in your predicted team to defend corners, free kicks etc. Not something to base a team on I know but I like to cover all bases
If everyone's fit who would add the height in our first 11? Don't say McTominay or Maguire! We seem to have done ok all season in that regard.
It looks like we are trying to hold onto Greenwood by buying more time for his reintroduction to the squad. Something to keep an eye on for next season.
If we're concerned by height, Maguire should play. Although Varane is not exactly short. I'd go AWB, Maguire, Martinez, Malacia back four. Casemiro, Fred, Bruno midfield three. Sancho, Martial, Antony front three. Could be a decent case for a back five of Dalot Maguire Martinez Varane and Malacia with Shaw being out though. If this the case, same midfield three and Sancho misses out up front. Prefer the first option myself though.
That shambles in the second half was completely of our own making. We came out with no intensity. And the subs were absolute ****. We were poor but at least looked comfortable. Taking off Bruno, Antony and Martial was just not required, certainly not that early. I like Weghorst but he had 2 chances to make it 3-0 and he just bottled it.
I agree on those substitutions, all three should have been kept on for this game. The Martinez injury, then the first defending abomination, then the second bad luck one, weren't controllable. But still, those subs are made when you're three up, not two.
Also the timing of them. We didn't dominate in that 2nd half but were just about comfortable. Taking off Bruno and Martial at 75 mins was just asking for trouble imo. And then Antony 5-6 mins later. Poor.
Pellistri's a fantastic emerging talent but when I saw Antony coming off and him coming on I just thought oh fck!
Massively up against it if both Martinez and Varane are out long term. Well, even just Martinez as he's the glue of the defence, not Varane. If we're stuck with Maguire and Lindelof fourth will be a struggle, let alone any idea of another cup win. That pair against City in the FA Cup final, if we even get there, is horrifying.
Shaw and McTominay are coming back. Ten Hag could play Shaw at CB as he has in the past. And done quite well there tbf. Malacia was poor against Sevilla though, and I don't just mean the fck up for the goal. Imo he's been very good some games, poor in others. Jury's still out on him for me. I just trust Ten Hag's judgement here and hope he becomes more consistent bcos he isn't atm.
