I haven't seen him for a while, but I have a screenshot of him claiming that Joelinton was twice the player rondon was when we first signed him.
That has been a long standing gripe I have had for it seems forever. Firstly, the relevant Law. Categories of foul Direct free kick offences A direct free kick is awarded when a player commits any of the following in a manner considered by the referee to be careless, reckless or using excessive force: Kicks or attempts to kick an opponent Trips or attempts to trip an opponent Jumps at an opponent Charges an opponent Strikes or attempts to strike an opponent Pushes an opponent Tackles an opponent Or commits any the following offences: Holds an opponent Impeding the progress of an opponent with contact Spits at an opponent (considered Violent Conduct as the spit is considered an extension of the body) Handles the ball deliberately (except for the goalkeeper within their own penalty area).[1]:36 In determining whether or not a player deliberately handled the ball, the referee has several considerations: Movement of the hand towards the ball (not the ball towards the hand) Distance between the opponent and the ball (unexpected ball) Position of the hand ('natural' position versus 'unnatural' position) does not necessarily mean that there is an infringement Touching the ball with an object held in the hand (clothing, shinguard, etc.) counts as an infringement (considered an extension of the hand) Hitting the ball with a thrown object (boot, shinguard, etc.) counts as an infringement (also considered an extension of the hand)[1]:119 If a player commits a direct free kick offence within their own penalty area, a penalty kick is awarded irrespective of the position of the ball, provided the ball is in play In the Wilcock example it would have to be a trip in the penalty box in a manner considered careless. The fact that Cheatford moves his leg after the slight contact AND THEN flicks his foot up before an exaggerated fall shows he wasn’t tripped and, therefore, the careless element is irrelevant. No penalty. in the Lascelles example MacGuire strikes Lascelles using excessive force. Penalty. My gripe? That referees, pundits, so called experts don’t know the Laws of the Game but rabbit on pontificating as if they did. The issue of contact, whilst relevant, is not the top or bottom or determining feature in whether a foul has been committed or not but you’d never know that listening to the so called experts.
I agree with you 100%, but the IFAB did say this year that any contact in the penalty area will be a penalty if it in any way impedes the attacker. It's ridiculous but IFAB have changed the interpretation of the rules. There is nothing the FA, Premier League or referees can do about it. And it is ruining the game!
Fair point: but in the instance of maguire against Lascelles. Is that just good defending? Or an elbow to the face using excessive force?
But it didn’t impede the attacker. That’s my point. He was moving naturally after the contact and then dived. The contact didn’t impede him.
We should stop blaming everyone. We are crap and that's the fault of Bruce and Ashley. The pair of them are turds.
