Remind me how many games Carragher and Gerrard have played this season?

Gerrard is what 32? Hardly 37 and 38 is he!

How many games has Vidic played this year?

I agree on Cleverley and Young, somehow forgot them.

A bit like Ian Callaghan then?

Callaghan's Liverpool career consisted of 856 first team appearances, during which he scored 69 goals.

Ok so you need a centre half, world class centre mid, a new keeper and two new forwards? That all? You are starting to sound like one of us <laugh> we've been saying the same for the last twenty years <whistle>

Come on Ruffian! You presently sit in a 'commanding' position 3 points off the top - but there's still a way to go and your squad is already showing wear and tear. You are more likely to hit a run of 'bad' form than to go on a dominating surge with the squad that you have got.

At the start of the season we continually told you that your midfield was porous and that your defence was not as strong as you thought - and so it has been proven. But we were told that the midfield was more than compensated for by the attacking wideplay - haven't seen too much of that now have we?

We were told that Utd would never let themselves slip as Liverpool did yet we see no true signs of your squad developing to even greater hights.

My comments were made not as a comparator between our two clubs - we are very much a work in progress. Neither was it made as an outright dig at Utd. In exactly the same way as when Liverpool came to the end of their run of dominance then there are very worrying (for you) similarities in the state of the squad, the culture of the club and the attitude of the supporters.

Like I said Dave, two or three top class players and the squad is fine.

We do need those players though.

Yeah, but this hardly means that the whole squad is weak does it? Just needs tweaking.

That is the point though, whether it is just tweaking or in need of a major overhaul. Realistically, how many of the current squad would start in the first 11 of any the other top 5 clubs and NOT be squad players?

    Starters:
    Vidic
    Cleverly (possibly
    Jones (as CM)
    Fletcher (IF fit)
    Valencia
    Young
    Rooney
    Welbeck
    Hernandez

    Squad players:
Smalling (not yet anyhow - needs a decent run out with Vidic)
    Nani
    Berbatov (at the right club...)
Scholes - class but too old to build one, useful as squad player
    Giggs - ditto

    Not good enough
    De Silvas
    Evra
    Evans
    Anderson
    Carrick
    Owen

The real problem is the GK and defense, both of which need a major overhaul. This is a lack of cover in the midfield too. The parallels with Liverpool c.1990 are worrying to say the least.

No we did. They were binned by Houlier or left for "greater things". I.e Fowler, Owen and Macca. I agree on your last sentance, at the start you were smashing people with the like of Cleverley. Losing Fletcher and having Carrick hasn't helped.

If you compare the squad they have now to the squad they had 5 years ago - It's actually pretty embarrassing (not for me, I find it funny)

However, us Liverpool fans can hardly talk because if you compare our squad to those of old then that's even more embarrassing - although, we've improved recently and Utd haven't.

So I guess it's a pointless argument considering the history and traditions of both clubs.

I think the entire league is weaker, the standard of football at times has been shocking.

    That's true.

If you look at 95% of the teams below the top 6/7 all they do is defend hard against the big clubs in hope of getting a draw - In the good old days teams went hell for leather to win the game no matter who they were playing. The modern game has been ****ed over by many factors, including it's pretty much a non contact sport now. When I was taught to play back in the early 80's the main thing we were told was to get stuck right in and let them ****ing have it.

Bring back the old days I say <ok>

Yeah true. It's good you can still tackle in the likes of the Championship. I sometimes watch the Football League Show as it like what the Premiers League used to be like - be it with a little less high end stuf.

But yeah the generation of fantastic players have left or are getting old and havent been replaced. Italy has struggled more so in recent years. I used to watch Football Italia with that bald bloke in the 90's - it was full of fantastic players and it just is about 40% of what it was.

Yet we were told that the reason for stopping the contact was to allow the flair players to flourish, what happened? 4-5-1 is now a pretty standard formation.
