All I was getting at was that, despite the multi-national make up of the PL, most teams have a core of at least a few British players - Terry, Cole and Lampard at Chelsea; Ferdinand, Rooney, Scholes/Giggs etc at Utd, even City have a few, Hart, Milner, Barry and Arsenal who have fielded a starting 11 with no Brits, now have regulars in Wilshire, Ramsey, Walcott etc. the team we were promoted with only had Ale and Buz, off the top of my head, not from Britain. Rightly or wrongly there is a view that British players bring something unique in terms of commitment and passion, plus also upping the pace of the game. Not sure I believe this myself (can't really top Mbia's passion) but the point was the balance of the team will be very different from now on - will this change anything (though I suspect that Yorkshire is right and the old guard will get a shout)?

Perhaps I was naive in thinking we could have a discussion about football, the race stuff did not even enter my head. Trust you to helpfully point this out.

Mate, you started a thread saying that you find it strange having so many foreigners playing for us. I don't think you can have a go at me after putting up an OP like that.

I honestly find it an unusual "feeling" that you and COL claim to have. We've had foreigners right throughout our squad for years now. Teams like Arsenal have had, at times, no English players at all in their team in recent years. I don't know why you'd suddenly start feeling strange because we're signing a couple of French blokes. I thought we'd crossed that bridge a long time ago.

I understand what Stan was trying to say in his OP. He's unknowingly pointing out my hypocrisy! Was a time when I looked at all these foreigners (pretty average players too, many of them) getting bought in to the prem as cheaper options to our standard UK and Irish (with a bit of Dutch and Scandinavian thrown in) stock.

I called teams like Arsenal 'a circus' and snottily expressed no interest in watching them.

So what's the difference here and now? Ummm.... (goes all gooey eyed!). Well, anything them Rs do is fine by me - except dropping points, that is!!
